You can’t always get what you want? Says who? The Rolling Stones...I know, I know... but I beg to differ. We always get what it is that we want. What we expect. The Law of Attraction says it is so; and sometimes it’s just what we need.
So what do any of the above photos have to do with what I’m saying? I finally found my King, the One unexpectedly in some old, familiar places. Early one Football Sunday evening I decided to stop off at Jose Tejas in Islein, NJ while en route to call on a family member in the city, NYC that is. But things were different. The Beef Burro, which we will refer to as B.B., with black beans and rice had a darker sauce and lighter cheese. You see, I’d been ordering my B with black beans and rice since pre-pre teen. I started with chicken and orange soda than graduated to the pulled beef and margaritas. It’s not that it was bad. It was just different. It was not what I expected. It was not what I went there for. It was what I wanted but the taste had changed. It no longer met my expectations. I sent B.B. back and simply opted for yet another splendidly unchanged Texas Margarita on the Rocks with Salt. I didn’t order anything else, although the menu is loaded with stellar Tex-Mex and Cajun options. I would not settle for anything other than what I really wanted. What I truly expected. Despite Gus’, my bartender’s, cajoling, I just couldn’t do it.
Once I finally made this determination to identify what was different and accept that things had changed with my once beloved B.B. I was able to enjoy what was still all good; my Texas Margarita on the Rocks with Salt and the Raiders... oh behave! Even better yet, I was able to shine in my true radiance. Knowing that I hadn’t settled by accepting something that I wanted but didn’t because it no longer fulfilled my expectation evoked a balance of humble strength and confident peace. It was in this light that King J walked in with a hangover from the night before and silently declared me a Queen.
Exactly what I always wanted and expected of the One, my King. Just what I need.
