Most definitely superiority. He thinks he's the king of the island; the most intelligent, the best-looking, and the strongest. He was raised to believe such and Citra made him believe that he was this legendary warrior. Stuff like that doesn't die hard.

It never ceased to amaze her the sentimental value that came with a simple object, especially one that was so small. Shepard let a smile creep on her lips as her thumb ran across the small badge that she held in her hand. Forever Normandy. For a moment the Commander wondered where the Lieutenant would have acquired such a thing. Sure the Normandy was known for being the best ship in the Alliance fleet, after all she was one of the many in the battle against Sovereign and the only vessel to have traveled through the Omega 4 Relay and return with her crew in one piece. Even such there wasn't that much memorabilia for the Normandy to be found. 

Who knew where he found the thing. And still it made her smile to know that such a thing existed and to know that he held it so close. 

James probably never expected to see it again. From the stories he told her he believed it to be lost back in the wreckage of Fehl Prime. Anderson had passed it on to her and they both knew that at right time she would need to return it to him. She heard the ding of the elevator from beyond her door and Shepard rose to her feet. The small emblem stayed clutched in her palm. Vega didn't know the reason he had been summoned to her cabin, he probably thought he had gotten into some sort of trouble.

It couldn't hurt to let him think that for at least a while after all the little tricks he had played on her in the past couple months. Sentiment could wait while she had her fun.
