The sun is blazing today after 2.5 months of (what felt like) non-stop rain and grey skies.

I have a Bird of Paradise plant that's ~20yo and has been flowering for the past few. What makes me happy is when everyone gives me compliments about that, because outside of a hothouse or dedicated tropical garden, it's apparently very difficult to get them to flower in the UK. Also their blooms are lovely & bright (see below).

Libraries. I recently rediscovered my local, and it's been great for finding books on arts & crafts.

My new curtains. I had a venetian blind which died, and now I have lovely new curtains which let me have plants in my bedroom.

The thought of improving my home. I wanna do this, that and the other to it, to make it nicer for me and no one else. (I am less enthralled about the having to spend money & make phone calls part 😅️)

Chickens!

I hope everyone is hanging in there. Trying to keep my head above water here. Admittedly that has been hard to do as of late. Seems like more and more bad news around every corner. These little guys helped though. I hope they send good vibes into the world.

I get stuck on the blank page thing terribly when I am not feeling well. Andrea Nelson had this video on these little guys on her YouTube channel and it really helped both with the blank page, but also my mood. I really needed it.

I think everyone should do some kind of art as therapy at some point. It doesn't have to be grand, or even original really, it just needs to help your mind and body take a beat. It's my birthday and frankly I hate my birthday, so I think I will try more chickens today, and maybe a cow. I have yet to do a highland cow, so maybe today is the day to hide from my birthday and paint a cow. Wish me luck!

For Mermay 2026! Which I very nearly let slip by with all the craziness that has gone on in my personal life.

My oldest child got married, and it was beautiful! It was work, but very much worth it for how lovely it all turned out and how much fun everyone had. Also, have been deep in preparation for a multilevel disc replacement surgery in my cervical spine in just under two weeks, plus doing everything we can to avoid shutting down our local NPO because of shady overseas asshats trying to take over our NPO name, so that means meeting lawyers we cannot afford but must somehow comeup woth the money.

Through all that, Mermay slipped my mind until yesterday when I started figuring out what I wanted to draw/paint. I hope to paint something else, but we'll see.

It's National Be Late For Something Day. So.... since we didn't post this yesterday for National Wildlife Day, we're posting today. I always like this octopus. And, always makes me think of conservation.

Happy Pride Month My Tumblr Peeps! I sure hope this month holds the best Pride month in store for us yet. I feel like with the current events in the US, with our 250 year anniversary, the asinine political administration we have and the mass of people who are all too eager to ride the coattails of that dementa addled loser, it's even more important to hold Pride Month important this year. Here in Seattle it looks like there will be a pretty big Pride v Soccer showdown, so I am hoping our culture of Pride will win out. Go Pride 2026!

Posting the daffodils I have been painting, as it is snowing all day today so far, and probably ruining all our beautiful daffodils. I Haven't ventured out in the yard to look yet. We have about 4-5 inches on my back deck rails, and probably 2-3 inches on the front lawn that I can see from the window. Last several years now, spring hits with warmer weather then we get some last big cold/snowy blast that kills/stuns the blooms. So sad. then all the buds have to recover or the bush has to regrow so it's late.

I'm trying to decide if the dogs and I are getting fully suited up and walking in the falling snow, or staying inside and making it a warm beverage day. Their poor ears and feet are already chilly and we haven't even gone anywhere yet, which makes me lean toward not wanting to take them out and making them cold. On the other hand, I know science is cool, and they probably aren't as cold as I worry they are and they should experience the wonder of the falling snow too... even if it's a short walk. *sigh* I sometimes over agonize over what to do for the health and wellbeing of my dogs. I take my caretaker-ship/conservatorship pretty seriously I guess. I try anyway.
