Heineken World Bottle (WoBo):
I first read about these ingenious little bottles from the 60's while in high school, surfing on my win95 gateway, or maybe it was a win98. Since that day i have not forgotten them once. "So perfect, it will solve all our problems!" I thought. Turns all the waste directly into building materials, and even when the buildings are demolished they can be simply be recycled again, say into new bottles or who knows. Second best to actually re-using the bottles as bottles. Still makes me think, what if we had automated factories that just produced 1000 or so super versatile items, like pens that are turned into concrete reinforcement when they run out of ink, or cars that fill in the ocean to (re)claim land. Seems like I have been in the Netherlands a while if i am saying stuff like this. But because I am here, I was lucky enough to see these bottles up close at the Nederlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam. Earthship
It's something that could be build with WoBo's or at least uses bottles. It is also the name of a great book that Emily gave me and I unfortunately lost during a move. It is all about buildings (primarily residences) that use the earth to regulate it's climate for low energy, low impact houses for all climates, but best suited to fairly warm places. Bottle Island
A carpenter living on an island floating entirely on bottles in Cancun. This island is about the size of a tennis court and carries, sand, plants, birds and some dogs! Great Pacific Garbage Patch
And of course, full circle to howLAB's New Frontier. The garbage patch could be used in WoBo fashion to make earthships or oceanships, but some how it will be used in the New Frontier. But more likely you won't find a full bottle in there, so it will have to be used in a different way. Start Designing!
