Fun little beer sampler before dinner tonight!
Beer sampler
A few of us from work went out to Newburyport for dinner and some drinks. The first stop was Park Lunch which has the best chicken fingers around. After a few beers there (High Life and Yuengling), we stopped at The Grog.
I've said it before, but The Grog's beer selection has become amazing over the last few years. There's always at least 3-4 new brews on the menu that I hadn't had before. I went the sampler route for most of my stay so i could try a bunch of brews.
In an interesting coincidence, every beer on the first sampler had almost the same appearance. From left to right they were: Coronado Orange Avenue Wit, Pretty Things Fluffy White Rabbits Tripel, Brasserie de la Senne Taras Boulba Belgian Pale Ale, and North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner. The Coronado wasn't anything to write home about. The other three were really good.
In the second sampler, from back to front, I had: White Birch Hop Session Ale, North Coast XXV Anniversary Belgian Pale Ale, The Bruery Saison de Lente Saison, and Peak Espresso Amber Ale. Each of these were really good, but the White Birch and Peak stood out. While not a session in strict definition (5.1% ABV), the Hop Session was hoppy with pine flavor and bitter from the middle through the finish. The Peak Espresso had a ton of coffee flavor with a lot of malt in the background.
If you're ever in the Newburyport area, then you should stop by The Grog for a beer or three.
