I'm on daily medication for my migraines, but I have an abysmally low rate of actually remembering to take them, which means they massively lose effectiveness
The issue was that when I was really ill a few years ago, I had to take upwards of 10 daily medications multiple times a day. I guess I got burnt out from doing that, and now I am lucky enough to need only one daily medication, my brain is just like nope! Not doing it!
Anyway, I just started an SSRI 5 days ago (cries in side effects) and decided enough was enough, and that I need to do something about my adherence to medication regimes.
Do you know what I did? Filled my medication organiser with SMARTIES
Yep. So I bought an organiser again, the smallest little one I could find for literally £1.50. I used to have one of those multiple times a day for a whole MONTH bastards, and filling it up every month was a whole full time job. I put off getting one again for so long but it meant I could never remember if I'd actually taken my meds or not so I inevitably gaslighted myself into never taking them on the offchance I was gonna accidentally overd0se.
I really wanted to do something minimalist this time, so I just got this tiny little shitty organiser, put my meds in it and filled up every days container with SMARTIES, and whatcha know? I've remembered to take my meds every single day since
I figured I never had any issue 'remembering' to eat my Advent calendar at xmas, so this was a play on the same concept. And every morning I remember there is Chocolate waiting for me on top of my coffee machine, and I take them whilst my coffee is brewing. That was always supposed to be the plan, hence why I keep my meds on top of the coffee machine, tie habits to other habits etc etc, but evidently I just needed a bit of extra motivation.
The great thing is, when I refill them for the next week, I have a bunch left over from the tube at the end so I get to eat even more, which is a great incentive to actually fill the organiser back up!
