i could not sleep last night. i thought about the way the oxygen rich air of casino floors on the Las Vegas strip is manufactured to keep us all awake. i miss the blinding lights & its promises of long nights; a city that’s taken far more than it’s ever given. i could not sleep last night. i thought about the neon signs of Tokyo & how the city sleeps well into the afternoon in a perpetual hangover of adventurous nights. i wondered if the people i’d met are resting safely in their homes. i could not sleep last night. i thought about my best friends & the last time we embraced. i thought about every “last time” i’ve experienced & what it must do to my soul. i thought about last Christmas & the mess it was. i could not sleep last night & as the sun crept through the blinds, i hoped this December would give us all a second chance.
