Any tips for new witches?Like what type of stuff i need to write,remeber and read? like what grimoire

HELP I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START AFTER I FELL OUT OF MY PRACTICE

General Advice Time:

Make a list of the things that interest you the most about witchcraft/ your practice and learn about them!

Grimoires are as unique as the person who makes them so if you want to make an artbook and collage your grimoire in an old book: Do it. If you want to type everything up with a super fancy script and then tea dye the pages and THEN glue them into an art journal: Do it!

Your path is 100% your own and I hope you enjoy finding yourself along the way!

just wondering, can u apply the decans to all the diff planets too like moon, mercury, venus, etc? if so, how would that be different from the asc sign decans?? thank u!!

hey there 💕💕💕 i generally use the modern one bc it goes by degrees, rather than by days, so it makes sense to me to use it for other placements too 💕💕

I see it as a progression/scale of the signs (rather than the planetary body/axis). Like how 0′/29′ are critical/anaretic degrees, the progression in between the journey to get/move to those points, I think is just as important too 💕 

On idol readings we don’t have a lot to go by, so I use alot more decans there to figure out how to go about emphasizing certain things and seeing it how fuse/blends together. But for natal charts (w/ houses and times) there’s a lot going on. So I use decans on the axis and just focus on aspects for the planet (but thats just me, feel free to do it however you like) 💕

I hope this is somewhat helpful 💕Just like how the Moon Signs you were born in have significant phases to them and how it influences Moon Astrology, I think decans/seeing things as progression/spectrum and stagnant things are also just as important too 💕

After a fellow witches opinion - all my rituals/spell work for, about and against others have worked out as planned or has some result at least.

Conversely my rituals/spell work for and about myself comes to nothing.

Do you have any thoughts you would share on this?

Hmm I've had some instances where spells I've cast haven't really worked. I find that writing down all the steps and then trying the spell again might help. Keep notes in your grimoire/BOS on the steps you take and maybe you'll see some little instances pop up.

Maybe you added an extra thank you to your deities for stacy's good luck charm but forgot for your own. Trial and error are the main parts to the practice so please don't feel down if you can't cast for yourself.

Try referring to yourself as you would one of your friends. "Bless this pencil for [OP whom I'm naming Alex in this instance] Alex who needs to do well on their test later this week." [If your name actually is Alex consider that a freebee on the house ;)c ]

TLDR: Take notes, take chances, make mistakes, repeat the spell!

:ALWAYS PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY:

NEVER LEAVE YOUR CANDLES UNATTENDED! NEVER BURN THINGS WITHOUT PERMISSION OF YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN’S PERMISSION! ALWAYS KEEP YOUR HAIR AND SLEEVES TIED BACK WHEN PERFORMING SPELLS NEAR CANDLES!

This warning comes because I lit a candle earlier today and FORGOT TO PUT IT OUT WHEN I WENT TO ANOTHER ROOM AND GOT DISTRACTED FOR SEVERAL HOURS WITH OTHER THINGS! I came downstairs and smelled it burning from another room and remembered that I had lit it and hadn’t put it out!!! PLEASE ALWAYS REMEMBER TO KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR CANDLES WHILE THEY ARE BURNING!

It could have ended VERY BADLY had something happened and I was not there to put it out! ALWAYS PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY PLEASE!!!

Do you have any advice on choosing a magical name? I’ve found a lot of names that I really like, but none of them feel like “me”, and I know it’s not necessary to have one, but I’ve been trying to find one for nearly two years now

Hey there thanks for sending this in!

Magical Names are a little bit tricky since they are personal and unique to each person. There are no rules saying that you HAVE to stick with whatever magical name you find/come up with first. You are ALWAYS free to change it as you grow and go through your own path. 

As for coming up with one: Feel free to pick and take from things that interest you. If you’ve got an interest in Gemstones try for one of your favorites (Agate, Amethyst, Opal, Chalcedony, Onyx ect ect) Or Space theme (Comet, Ganymede, Asteria, Mars, Sol ect ect) Animal names are also quite common as well as different natural occurrences (ie: Storm, Thunder, Tide/Tidus, 

You can combine them to form longer names if you want to: Rowan StoneThistle, Avery MoonMist, Rainn Dracolight, Sylvia FrostBlossom

and it is always 1000000% okay to use Fantasy Name Generators to help get yourself a jumping off point:

Sometimes people pick them from elements that have played roles in their lives. I picked mine because my Birthday is basically the start of Hurricane Season, we live in a “coastal” area that experiences Hurricanes, the fact that i’ve always felt drawn to the Elements of Water and Air and Storms seemed to be a good combination of the two of those, and finally because when i was starting to really get into my practice I saw several posts here way back when that Storm Water was a powerful spell ingredient and I wanted to have that reflected in my name and in my practice (hence StormWaterWitch) as it incorporated my witchy name as well as the hopes i had for my future practice. 

-To find mine i looked back through my life and tried to find out what was most prominent in my life, what memories stuck out to me the most and see what they had in common. Some memories i drew upon when picking were: Watching Hurricane Ike make landfall and the colors of the clouds against the blood red sunset, Laying/floating in the pool and feeling the breeze, and the magical feeling of the wind picking up right before a rainstorm with just a hint of raindrops.

have you ever felt like your religion was a joke? i’m suddenly feeling so weird about my beliefs after visiting a local metaphysical shop and getting really bad vibes. what can i do? i love witchcraft, and i love being a witch, but i feel so discouraged.

Hey Pookie,

I’ve certainly felt that way before and its a sucky mindset to be in. 

This might be a good thing to write about in your Grimoire. I’ve found that writing out what’s bothering me helps me get it off my mind and helps me start viewing it from a new perspective. Maybe just let yourself free write whatever comes to mind about how you feel about your craft. You might start seeing patterns or things that jump out at you when rereading that you hadn’t noticed were present while you were thinking about it. Write about what your belief system is, what drew you to wanting to practice and what you’re wanting to get out of your practice. writing it out might help you revisit the things that drew you towards magic in the first place. The store you visited might not have been aligned with what YOU want out of your path, and that’s okay. There are as many different paths as there are people to walk them. 

As for how to get over it: It might just be a dip in your path where you just need to take some time away from practicing. Kind of like burn out but with magic stuff. It happens (November- February is typically my low point in the year) Don’t stress out too much about not performing rituals/spells all the time. Just take it easy. Do what feels right to you. If that means taking a step back and not doing large scale spells for a while then do that. If that means doing smaller spells every few weeks vs one every week then do that. You know you and your preferences the best. Don’t push yourself too hard. 

As for the vibes you got from the store, might be a good idea to do a cleansing of you and your spaces JIC something stuck to you that’s causing you to feel this way. My suggestion would be to do a light cleansing with a spritz bottle, salt/rosemary and water and just go through all your spaces with it. Get your altar space, car, room, kitchen ect where ever you feel needs it. After you cleanse your spaces cleanse yourself in a shower/bath. I have lots of cleansing resources in my Cleansing Tag so feel free to check around and see if one will work for what you’d like.

Okay but this might seem dumb but what is a decan?😅😅

not a dumb q at all! 💕u know how you can be Sagittarius 3′ or whatever the number is?? that indicates the progress when we move through a sign right?? well it could have an impact on us too!!(lessons we’re learning to embody/grow with) 💕 i explained it as ‘different shade/ranges’ cause like, not every Sagittarius person is the same as each other? It just adds a lil more shades to understanding urself, if ure more of a learner like that💕If you want a more– concrete explanation check this out ✨

PS. I use the modern one, just bc it’s simplier for most of us to get into since we might not have a background with ancient astrology and it’s something ppl might want to check out/be interested in more before delving deeper into traditional studies. Modern is just accessible to everyone for the time being/beginner friendly for starters to get their hands wet 💕
