My begonia Sinbad is coming back!
I've grown this begonia since 2020. She grew so tall and bushy, I was super proud! But last year she was affected by powdery mildew, which is a horrible fungus disease that spreads really fast.
I treated her with strong neem oil and cut her down several times, but the mildew kept coming back. So after several times, I decided to cut all of the branches down, like super hardcore.
After a few months of just watering enough and being in observation in my ER room, she is coming back. Fingers crossed that the mildew won't come back 🤞🏽
Begonia Sinbad (Angel wing Begonia)
I'm so happy that I found this rare baby randomly at a local nursery about 1.5 years ago. This was my confirmation that I was ready to grow and keep begonias happy. She has grown insanely and I'm currently attempting to propagate two cuttings.
This has worked for me:
✓Try not to wet the leaves. I personally don't mist or water the leaves.
✓Finger test for life. They love to dry well before watering again.
✓I add one tablespoon of coffee grounds twice a year.
✓Medium indirect light
✓Talk to them!
Begonias & Mini Cold Frame
Since our puppy destroy my plants in the garden bed, I decided to move my mini cold frame on top of it. It basically house 6 begonias & one small colocasia and one snake plant.
This protects them from wind drafts, bugs, harsh direct sun, but it also increase the humidity! 💚

I used to kill begonias, so I decided to stop trying for a while. Read about them, research and when I felt confident I was going to try again.
A year ago I spotted this baby without knowing she was a rare find. She is so unique, that I had to get her. I felt confident and I put all my focus on her. She has grown so much since las year, it is insane. Also, now I have 3 other Begonias!
Key takeaways
- Let the plant dry well between watering sessions
- Do not wet the leaves, nor mist them! They hate it
- If there are leaves on the lower part, use the bottom watering method.
- Medium to bright to indirect light

My cutting rooted in water and I transplanted it last week and it is looking awesome. This one was for mother-in-law!
I'm obsessed with this Begonias seemingly never ending blooms😍🌸 I thought they'd all die after I took it home but its been months now. Dead ones drop everyday but its constantly growing new ones so fast its not even noticeable 🪴
