I can feel the words on
my lips like an oath--
they are an oath--
I didn’t know--
I can hear a congregation
murmuring in sync,
reverently or reverent-
like the only words they
can say with real
kavanah,
I will bring peace to the
land and you shall
lie down and no one
shall terrify you,
words sweet and honey-
like on my tongue, sweet
and reverent-like and
familiar,
I will rid the land of vicious
beasts and it shall not
be ravaged by war,
oh peace is an active
concept and we can feel
that in our bones, feel that
in these memorized words,
peace is a ridding and now
I’d like to lie down and
let love and justice flow
like a mighty
no that’s not the next pasuk,
I need to un-queue,
I need to sit up,
you will give chase to
your enemies, they will
fall before you by
the sword,
and God I thought
you would do the
ridding and didn’t you
say you’d bring peace to
the land and aren’t these
the real words, these,
and no sword
shall cross but
five of you shall give chase to a
hundred, and a hundred of you
shall give chase to ten thousand;
your enemies shall fall
before you by the sword, and
can you not make of
us vicious beasts, please
let love and justice
flow like a mighty stream
let peace fill the earth as
the waters fill the sea and
let me lie down,
let me lie down,
I am so tired, and
you shall lie down and
no one shall terrify
you and
