StrongVeganAthlete Chronicles: This is a shot put. The 16 pound cannonball. That is what the shot put is, a smooth bore cannon ball of a specific weight. Shot is anything that can be stuffed into a smooth bore cannon, that includes chain shot, grape shot, metal spheres from bird shot to 330 pounds. Cannon balls were usually weighted in two pound increments at least up to 24lbs. I can imagine a couple, or maybe more, gun crews challenging each other to see who can throw the farthest. Shot is is not a shell. Shells explode, shot is solid. The bottom line is we get the 16 pounder. The shot and hammer are the only non SI measured implements in Athletics or here in the States, track and field. Age grouping and gender demarcation, does does mean using shots weighing less than the 16 lb standard Olympic shot. At my age, that is 5kg, or almost exactly 11 lbs. In practice, the 16 pounder is used. Quickness is still an issue. Work on the spin. As far as throwers go, 200 pounds is very small. That means a lot of work and practice. You work to do. What is it? A skill set? Some type of conditioning? More mass? Perhaps symmetry? If you run, you have to run. If you lift, you better do it. Whatever you do for exercise, that needs to be the core and focus of what you do. There may be other exercises you do to supplement, but not replace your focus. Never forget that. Your authentic self, is the best you. Be no other! Be in life. Now get going.
