Entulu apologises over 'race' column issue
PUTRAJAYA, May 8:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun today issued an apology for the confusion that arose following reports that the “race” column in official government forms would be dropped if it did not provide added value.
In a statement released today, he said the issue was discussed by the Cabinet but no decisions had been made.
He said media reports had not portrayed his announcement yesterday properly.
“This inaccurate report has provoked uneasiness among the people,” Entulu said in his brief statement.
Entulu was reported to have announced that the Cabinet had decided to drop the “race” column which did not bring added value.
But Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, when commenting on the report in Taiping this morning, denied that the Cabinet had made such a decision.
He said there had been no change in government policy in regard to the “race” column in government forms.
