42. star-crossed lovers

There’s a fate worse than death, and Hayato has only recently learned that lesson.

Don’t, Hayato thinks to himself as he pinches himself. Don’t think about him. The war between the sections of Vongola had been hard enough to deal with, but now there is no leader to pick up the pieces.

Guess you got what you wanted, Bel, Hayato thinks bitterly, his thoughts slipping to the blond despite himself. He doesn’t remember the ring in his pocket (very different from the Vongola Ring in his finger) until he shoves his hand into it and feels the cold touch of gold.

This was supposed to be much easier than this.

Life was supposed to be much easier than this.

Love wasn’t -- isn’t -- supposed to end in a massacre and both his loves’ deaths.
