and believe." John 20:27b Thomas heard Jesus speak of his resurrection over and over. His closest friends confirmed he had indeed risen, yet he still doubted. I don't think Thomas doubted that Jesus was Lord, no, he was doubting what Jesus ALREADY told him would happen. It just wasn't happening the way he imagined. And this is how we are like Thomas. How many times has the Lord clearly spoken something to us, and as time goes on we question and doubt His very clear words? We forget that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow and his word does not change. Including His word to us- he is not human that he should lie.not a human that he should change his mind. Does he speak and not act? Promise and not fulfill?(Numbers 23:19)- No. If he clearly told you something, the Lord will see it through. Doubt happens when we, like Thomas, form our own picture, our own understanding of what was spoken to us. When it doesn't look like we thought, or takes too long, we doubt- we doubt him and ourselves. Lord, I pray we can trust you with all of our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Lord I pray we would believe first then see. That we would believe without doubt and have it credited to our righteousness. I pray we would not be like Thomas, but like John, who at the tomb believed, even though he did not understand completely.
