Belize day 1 and 2!

And then getting to try fresh coconut water and traveling by water taxi to San Pedro
Overly long Travel diary:
Day 1
Successfully arrived in Belize after a long travel. Managed to mostly sleep on the six hour plane ride to Panama but the people next to me talked in some other language the whole time and it was annoying to have that much sound that close. Especially without any perks of eavesdropping.
But they did flag down the flight attendant as I woke up just after she went past with breakfast so that was nice. It some sort of tres Le he cake that was very hot and nice and gooey. I was kind of delirious tho.
I got good snacks on the short trip to Belize too although I think it maybe gave me heartburn because I started feeling nausea and like pain under my boobs. But also maybe just stress
Going through customs I realized that I no longer had a pen in my backpack and had to borrow someone’s.
Everybody else is super young but hopefully it will be good. Some are still in college.
It is very hot and very humid here.
I am very tired tho, six hours of plane sleep is not enough and we’re all going to bed at like 8pm
Day 2!
Today we got to go to the myan ruins of Alta hun. They were very cool and we got to climb most of them. The first plaza had the temple of the green king and a fertility temple. And then temple representing the underworld and it’s nine levels (each level of the temple had nine steps). And then up the temple to heaven and it’s 13 levels which was only partially evacuated, but was the highest and had a cool view over all the temples. The stairs were steep but the steepest ones had hand rails which were nice for going down.
None of the ruins were fully excavated they all still had some grass on the sides. Also when the Mayans left these sites they partially buried them themselves.
These sites didn’t do full human sacrifices they said because they didn’t have the ball courts for the “puck puck” game that they sacrificed people after. They did blood sacrifices were they would pierce a tounge or something else and bleed it onto white clothe and then burn it in the sun temple.
The sun temple was in the second plaza and was the biggest bd most excavated. They said it used to be taller. This one faced west and was the death site of the sun temple in Tikal which faces East.
We had to go through the tourist trap of a gift shop and I did get a cute maya calendar necklace for my birthday time and some turtle earrings. And then got to try someone else’s fresh coconut water which the lady there opened with a machete
We got cater lunch of traditional Belize chicken and bens and rice with very spicy salsa.
Then it was water taxi to the island. The taxi was cool with being able to see the water and a fish or two and the smaller islands. But the day was really filled with so much waiting. And so much waiting in the hot sun. The Mayan tour was only an hour and literally the rest of the day was spent traveling or waiting to travel which was kind of a bummer.
We did get a welcome dinner which was fun and got to walk along the beach to it.
