"Come on," Santi said, smiling as he gestured towards his car, which he had been leaning against as he waited for her to finish her shift at Poppies. "Got a dinner by the beach with our name on it," he grinned, still wanting to find ways to cheer his ex-girlfriend up, knowing he can only just imagine how painful it was to lose your best friend. "Got your favorites too."

“For you,” Toby said, handing her a pastry from The Daily Dose with a grin, trying not to feel sheepish. He’d had a crush on the middle Kaplan sister for as long as he could remember, but he never really did anything about it, mostly out of intimidation, which was funny because Belkis had to be one of the sweetest, least intimidating people in the world. He tried to think about what to say -- definitely trying to stay away from cheesy lines like how they were surrounded by pretty flowers but she was the prettiest one here -- but instead picked up a flower and dropping it almost immediately as he felt a prick on the inside of his palm. “Ow, damn,” Toby said, wincing slightly. “How can something so small hurt that much?” He asked with an embarrassed laugh.

"You know, with all the flowers you sell everyday, it must be nice to be the one receiving them too," Aleyna said as she held up some flowers she had gathered herself, which probably wasn't the best thing to give to someone who grew plants regularly, but buying the flowers from Poppies would have ruined the surprise. She waited until the flowers were out of her hands before she pulled Belkis in for a tight hug. "We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," Aleyna whispered. "But I'm here if you need me."

"Now this feels familiar," Santi teased her as he got out of Dee's kitchen just to bump into her. It almost felt like deja vu, being surrounded by the Kaplans again and being in Nightrest. It made him ache to go back to that time, back to when his football career was just taking off, compared to it coming to an end soon. The cops had already stopped the house party, but he wasn't ready for the night to end just yet. "Want to head over to Medusa with me?"

“You look beautiful,” Santi said with a smile at his date as he extended his arm for her to hold before they walked into the ballroom together. it was hard to be in a celebratory mood when the entire reason he even knew Belkis was now dead. His childhood friend, Derin. One he hadn’t seen in person in so long. He didn’t even get a chance to see him when he came back in town, and if he felt crushed about it, he could only imagine how Belkis was feeling. “If you want to get white girl wasted at the end of the night, I won’t blame you,” Santi said, feigning a conspiring whisper, playing it off as teasing even though he knows she has absolutely every right to get drunk after everything that happened. “I’ll drive you back home or to Dee’s after,” he added as he patted her hand.
