Bell Lightbox is Embarrassing ::
so, i thought i'd fly the Canuck flag tonite and go see the new Cronenberg film. I"m happy to report i really enjoyed it. it was far better than i thought it would be, so that was nice.
But...WTF is with the theatre TIFF put it in? it's on the 3rd floor, not the 2nd, and it has to be the least comfortable theatre i've been in in over 20 years. The seats are a complete joke, barely more comfortable than a costco poker chair. It left my friend and myself, and other patrons we'd never met but who'd all spent money to watch a film in Toronto's top theatre, with a lousy experience. And, we all compared identical notes about our experience. Next time, some of these people will simply stay home.
Additionally, it's an absolute embarrassment that one of Canada's leading filmmakers, one we are hyped to believe has extraordinary value in the eyes of Bell Lightbox and/or TIFF, should have his work treated so badly as to be put in what amounts to be the worst theatre in the country's largest city.
I challenge Cameron Bailey @cameron_tiff and his well coifed buds to sit through a film in that room and come away with some conclusion other than this: its an embarrassingly crummy physical experience that has no room to exist in Toronto in 2014.
As far as I can tell, those in charge don't care. They either just pretend to care, or are happy to live in blissful ignorance of this shoddy treatment of both the audience and the filmmaker.
