Ahead of the release of his new album ’Peripheral’, Bell.Gall. has provided us with his second contribution to the NORR mix series. Described in his own words as ”dirty lounge”, it’s an eclectic mix of beats and samples that also serve as a hint towards Bell.Gall.’s own productions.
’Peripheral’ drops November 8 through the NORR arts imprint.
INTRODUCING: BELL.GALL.
So who is Bell.Gall.? The artist behind our most recent release, Houses, is Calle Ahlström, born and raised in Umeå, Sweden (just like the NORR arts team) and currently living in Gothenburg. In 2015, he released an EP on tape through Umeå based label Purple Tapes, and now Houses is his debut full length album.
In making Houses, Bell.Gall. collected samples for over a year, which he then assembled, composed, and combined with synths, bass lines and different soundscapes. He has chopped up everything from children’s TV shows from the Soviet era to Persian funk, and the result is a complex, feverish, sometimes mean, sometimes nice - and always weird - collection of tunes.
It’s not necessarily easy listening, but it’s well worth it!
