Li Wenhan Smile Drama Recap Spoiler Alert
I'm halfway through the show. I love it!
I enjoy the main leads maturity in communication and how they work together to resolve their fears instead of the cliche misunderstanding after misunderstanding.
Wenhan plays a rising actor named Shu Zhan. He falls in love with Xiao Xing (Bella Du), an actress on the set while she is an extra.
Shu Zhan is drawn towards Xiao Xing because she is beautiful inside and out. He admires her work ethic, positive attitude and that she chases her dreams of getting bigger roles. He tells her that he believes in her and one day she'll make it.
While his life appears "perfect", others don't know that the character is dealing with trauma and mental health struggles.
Viewers can empathize when the characters are having a rough time and feeling unconfident at work.
Both characters talk about the importance of taking care of mental health. They seek professional help when necessary. They practice self compassion. They talk openly about their struggles. They demonstrate a lot of courage and self acceptance.
I really love the leads being compassionate and understanding towards each other. Because both were dealing with trauma, they really understood unique challenges and connected with each other.
I like that when Xiao Xing confronted Shu Zhan as to why he was distant, he opened up. He expressed that he felt insecure and hesitant because he thought she liked someone else, but was open to listen to what she had to say. I really like both leads open communication, patience towards one another and vulnerability.
There are times where Shu Zhan is strong and other times when he is vulnerable. He's not afraid to tell her that. These qualities make the character more easy to relate. I also enjoy watching the female lead grow. I felt really happy when she gradually got better roles. Her persistence, humble attitude towards work and belief in herself is admirable.
