ghoul: gasp. okay, if hide turned out to be a ghoul, he probably was turned into one after the owl suppression operation raid / after he went missing, and ended up becoming a floppy just like amon. otherwise, the scenes we got of hide eating food with kaneki and seidou wouldn’t make sense, and he would’ve gotten caught by the RC scan gate they have at the CCG headquarters when hide decided to work there as the ‘investigator assistant’ if this was the case. He would’ve given himself away, and gotten caught ( which isn’t something hide would’ve risked, b/c, u know he got the smarts ).
one-eyed ghoul king: oh lordy. if hide where to be a half-ghoul/half-human, he wasn't turned into one ( like kaneki ), but was born as one ( like eto ). Hence, why he can consume human food and why he has a strong sense of smell when it comes to ghouls. It also explains why we don’t know anything about his background, where he comes from, or know anything about his family. He’s so ambiguous, but this could also be because he’s probably just another side character who wasn’t bothered to give a background check just like yoriko, to begin with. He also knows too much about ghouls ( since ch. 1) for someone who is just human. Especially, when it was somewhat implied that the majority of the population didn’t believe that ghouls existed in the first place.
Also, in the novels, hide wasn’t sure if it was possible for a human to turn into a ghoul ( which supports the idea as to why i don’t think hide was turned into a half-ghoul/half-human just like kaneki), and it makes sense for hide to be born as one instead. also???
1. no one in the aogiri tree knew the one-eyed king’s identity
2. no one knows if there was a one-eyed king to begin with
3. eto admitted that she wasn’t the one-eyed king, & doesn’t know the one-eyed king’s identity
4. hence, it makes sense for eto not to recognize hide when he came to her book sign meeting
5. there’s a meta going around explaining why there’s a high chance that hide was raised into an abusive family (just like kaneki), and why he learned the signs of manipulation at such a young age. (idk if you want a link for this).
6. his senses are too sharp & spot on ( kaneki was even scared b/c of this).
7. there was another meta going around where hide might have contacts saved from ghouls he can blackmailed in order to get information out of the ghoul community.
