Lying with her felt so comfortable. It wasn't just the warm blankets and soft bedding. It wasn't just the warmth of another person lying there beside her or the touch of her skin. It was something else- that feeling when she knows she'll see her again but she still gets sad when she leaves. The feeling of loneliness even amongst good friends. That feeling of all the blood rushing back into her, giving her life, when she sees her again. The euphoria of even speaking with her casually. It was nearly too much for Bella to handle, especially, now, that Riniah was home nearly every day.
Without extra layers keeping them apart, the two of them fell silent when starlight fell. The smaller one wasn't quite quiet, moving and jostling about between them. The shorter elf held her wife and placed a hand on her stomach, feeling the movements, but it seemed her warmth put the child to sleep.
Bella couldn't sleep, naturally. Her heart beat, but her mind would not let her rest even for a moment. Her mind went thirty miles a minute, calculating prices and remembering her route she'd take tomorrow, if Riniah hadn't called Bella to be on vacation. Her chest tensed as she remembered that fact. She wasn't used to having breaks, and this would be a very difficult one to take.
For years, Bella had worked non-stop for the Blood Knights, and when they loosened their grip on the woman she found more work to fill the gaps. Now, just to up and stop for a while? She could lose so much in only a week.
Riniah creaked open her eyes, the soft glow resting upon Bella's bosom. "You still up, Rosie?" Her voice was tired and weak, a dry wondering. She craned her head upwards to see the short one's face. "Don't tell me... you've been up all night...?"
Bella smiled sheepishly and nodded, allowing an exasperated sigh to release itself from the warrior's chest. "I can't stop thinking... I can't rest, dearest."
"Well, then go get me a drink, then," Riniah said, in a half-commanding, half-joking manner.
Bella stared down at her lover with puffed-out cheeks, expectantly.
"Please."
Bella rolled herself out of bed at Rin's polite request, stepping outside in the nude to meet the brisk, Frostfire air. She pulled a tankard from the stand next to the door (for this request was common when the warrior resided here) and walked outside into the snow. The snow, of course, was cold, but her feet barely had feeling in them anyway, and she noticed it very little.
She walked around to the back, to a water spigot and a bucket. The bucket she kicked aside with a swift sweep of her leg and cranked the spigot to fill the tankard. It overflowed, as the water came out much too fast, and Bella simply tipped it to remove a bit of the excess water before going back inside.
She laid down next to her wife, handing her the drink she requested, but also helping Rin up with a sturdy arm. She heard a tired and quiet 'thanks' as Riniah slowly drank the entire tankard's contents in one go. She groaned as she lay back down and faced away from the paladin. Bella chose to lay by her side, holding her wife close and kissing her neck. Riniah purred beneath her lover, and they both soon fell fast asleep.
