Jean-Jacques Dessalines was born on the 20th of September 1758 at Cormiers in Grande Rivière du Nord. His birth mother name is unknown, and she past away soon after his birth. The newborn was raised and supported by "L'Agbaraya" Tòya throughout his life, better knowns in slavery system as Victoria Montou. She sacrificed much to educate him in the manner and thinking of being free from slavery. All his life he is guided by the good counsel of the one he calls "Tante Tòya". She educated him in knowing himself and his place in nature, the history of the Kings of Dahomey, many African languages, martial arts and medicine. Dessalines was not submissive of slavery of European Christian-hood. He contested every order given in a calculated manner to survive; used all the punishments to mature, better arm and fight the system at the opportune time. You will not understand the person Dessalines if you do not understand the system of Christian Slavery impose on the non-white people of the world by the Europeans. In spite of the fact that the hateful European Christian Slavery system had imposed atrocities, torture, and barbaric punishments which left their marks on his person not only mentally but physically; Jean-Jacques Dessalines did not let that demoralized and destroyed him. He used all that to forge his rage and ferocity in his battles for decades to come. The slave owners had experienced a lot which also means he had carried many names: Jean Millien, Romulus, Carlos, Gérard, etc... as slave/property (Ref. Code Noir).
