    the second he steps back, she does so as well; a hand covering her mouth, eyes slightly widened. for once, the fiery first lady is truly speechless. she expected MANY things from him ( most of them negative - and could she be blamed for it ? they were always at each other's throats when he was around; never a NICE word, just MOCKING & COMPLAINING ) , but she could have never anticipated something like this. his question is only met with a scoff and no further answer, for even if her lips had moved against his for a split second she wouldn't want to admit it or say it loud - it would only make this situation way more real than it should have been in the first place. ❝ what did you do that for? ❞

“ leisl. ” the same strict voice is softened by high spirits : only in recent weeks has he ceased his use of the whistle. the general brightness that has caused it, it seems, has made everything of him gentler ---- what part of himself he’d imagined dead in his grief has reawakened, and he cannot help but recognize how his heart draws him to maria. but of course, nothing can be done without the agreement of his children ---- has he not wanted only the best for them over the course of their lives?

“ leisl, come speak with me. i must ask you and your siblings’ thoughts on maria. ” it is not by coincidence, he thinks, that this governess has lasted for longer than the several that had come before her.

        Sergei shifted uncomfortably under what felt like scrutiny from Natalya. He swallowed down a lump in his throat that immediately grew back, bigger than before. One day that lump would suffocate him.

        At least all expectations of him would dissolve should he die.

        “Do I not remember much or does not much happen, Nataly?” he countered weakly. Every ounce of Sergei prayed that it was what he believed, that it was the latter. Every ounce of reason screamed it was the former.

        The worst part was that he didn’t even understand why he didn’t recall much.

        “Is it because I sleep too much?”

🌹╰ I GOT THIS ! she most certainly DID NOT have this. arms wavered and burned beneath several boxes of floral centerpieces. given the microscopic size of budding ( haha, get it ? ) business, it was just her and her two hands; which meant making her own deliveries. this was perhaps her BIGGEST client in her short time of being a florist. three hundred centerpieces for a gala attended by folks richer and fancier than she could ever hope to be. SHE COULDN’T MESS THIS UP —- just as that thought crosses her mind, the bottom of box gives way sending the flowers and vases onto the concrete, ❛ —- no, NO! ❜

      she grins seated at the edge of their bed. it was rare for sybil to feel this comfortable but she's not going to blame it on the fact that she likes him and blames it all on the four glasses of wine she's consumed. ❝ oh come on, you can definitely tell me. ❞ she says tossing hair over her shoulder. ❝ i can tell you mine.. ––– okay so i've never met anyone that could actually kiss. sounds very premature for a woman like me but it's actually something that's high on my list. i love kissing; totally revvs my engine. ❞
