You saw a trend going around so obviously you had to try it out on him!
"Would you rather be a baby goat or a matter baby?"
⋆˙⟡ feat: Phainon, Ashveil, Blade, Mydei, Anaxa, Aventurine, Sunday, Dan Heng (PT form cuz tail)
⋆˙⟡ word count: 800+
⋆˙⟡ tags: gn!reader, fluff? mostly lots of blushing and flirting, some of them might be ooc? apologies...
࣪ ִֶָ☾. a/n: Hey... first time posting kinda nervous... this trend was a while ago uhh dw about it. Enjoy! :D
•Doesn't have the highest screen time around, but weirdly knows all of the trends? Especially ones regarding couples (you suspect he purposely keeps track)
Phainon tilts his head in confusion at your question, almost like a puppy. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, but his eyes hint at something more playful.
"A baby goat or a matter baby?" He repeats, like he doesn't already understand the question. The corners of his lips twitch, betraying his motives.
"What's the matter, baby?" He says in that smugly, flirtatious tone of his, eyes half-lidded impishly. His smile wide and bright, far too innocent.
He knew exactly what he was doing.
•Doesn't keep up with trends, but he is a detective. He'll connect it in his head—is what he believes anyway.
Ashveil's hand comes up to his chin, mind immediately going into deep consideration like it was an unsolved case. He repeats the question in his head. Upon realising he doesn't have the full context, he lets the question slip.
"What's a matter baby?—" Only when he says it out loud does he realise the joke (flirt?). "You- I- ugh…" The detective's cheeks are flushed from embarrassment, he uses his hat to shield his face from your eyes. His own eyes looking anywhere but your face.
The poor detective can't handle being flirted with.
•Only aware of trends Silverwolf mentions in passing. He doesn't bother keeping track nor trying to understand them.
His eyes narrow in confusion at your question, his expression told you he was trying to figure out your intentions while also attempting to answer your ridiculous question.
"A matter baby? What is that?" Blade asked with a low grumble, his brows furrowing. When only your silenced answered him, he repeated his question. "What's a matter baby?"
It was only at your attempts to stifle a chuckle did he think over his words. He mumbled the words again to himself and grumbled at the realization.
The swordsman seemed… somewhat amused? You think?
•Does not keep up with trends whatsoever. He only hears about them from the other heirs.
He tilts his head and narrows his eyes at your question. He repeats the question to himself in a low mumble, brows furrowing in confusion.
"What's a matter baby?" Once the words slip from Mydei's mouth, he lets out a grumble and a long sigh. His brows creased at your antics—though you can see a faint flush to his cheeks.
"I really don't understand these trends," Mydei grumbles. You think he's going to turn away, but he looks at you without batting an eye and asks. "So, what's the matter, baby?"
Kremnoans can flirt???
•Does not keep up with trends—but don't be fooled! This doesn't mean he won't know what you're doing.
He cocks his head to the side, eyebrow raising in question. Anaxa brought his hand to his chin, pretending to be deep in thought and racking his brain for an answer.
"A baby goat or a matter baby? Neither," The scholar lips widened into that infuriating cocky smirk, arms crossing over his chest. "A baby dromas is the only correct answer."
When you huffed and made a dissapointed expression, Anaxa relented.
"Fine," The scholar sighed and leaned in closer, crowding your personal space, coy tone dripping from his voice. "What's the matter, baby?"
Seems like the professor can flirt! Er, somewhat.
•Keeps up with trends—like he knows every trend there is. Of course, pretends not to know so he can play along (though you're starting to suspect him)
Aventurine hums in thought at your question. "A baby goat or a matter baby…" He mutters under his breath, pretending to think for a while. He snaps his fingers like the answer was a jackpot.
He doesn't say anything immediately, just leans in close to you and drops his tone into a sultry manner. "What's the matter, baby?" The stoneheart throws a wink while he's at it.
His chuckle is infuriating and rich—literally. Although, if you squint, you might see a faint flush to Aventurine's cheeks.
•He doesn't use social media often unless it's to support his sister. Has no clue about most trends, only recently hears of them from March or the Trailblazer.
"A baby goat?… or a matter baby?" Sunday repeats with confusion, his ear wing twitches. He's silent for a few moments, racking his brain for an answer.
"What… what's a matter baby?" The halovian asks gingerly. As silence hangs in the air, it makes Sunday question his words. Only then does he realise the answer, letting it slip from his lips.
"Ah, it's what's the matter, baby…." His cheeks instantly flush, his ear wings reflexingly covering his face. He looks away from you to save what's left of his dignity.
Please don't try to pry his wings away from his face.
•Rarely keeps up with trends. Like Sunday, only ever hears of them from March or the Trailblazer.
His tail flicked once at your question, pointed ears twitched subtly. He blinks with furrowed brows, considering what you're trying to ask.
"What's a matter—" Dan Heng cut himself off and huffed once he realised what the full sentence was. His cheeks flushed with a pink hue, tail flicking once. Twice. His eyes drift to the side but he doesn't turn away.
"What's the matter, baby?" He attempted to playfully tease. Yet subtle wag of his tail gave away his shyness. Also the fact he grumbled at his own words, likely cringing over himself.
You think if you were to touch his tail he would turn more pink.
hiiii i saw that ur requests were open so i wanted to ask if we could get a cute cuddle fic with mydei? i feel like he’d be a good cuddler :)

— ✧ gn!reader x mydei
hii thank you so much for the request!! this is so freaking cute and i totally agree that mydei would be a great hugger so here's some fluff for you! this is a lot shorter than my usual fics but i hope you enjoy nonetheless!!
— ✧ cw: fluffy, ooc
you and mydei have just made your relationship official.
boyfriend and girlfriend... those words still make you giddy with glee on the inside.
you two were still in your honeymoon phase. everything still made you quite embarrassed, a blushing mess. but now, you two kept testing the line as to what more you could do.
every day, you kept falling further and further for him. you assumed the same was for him.
you both recently decided to share a living space in castrum kremnos.
the domestic life was... quite cozy. it was nice coming back from work to see him waiting for you. waking up in the morning and seeing his face beside you.
today was a slow morning. perhaps because you two had spent the night chatting, you went to sleep quite late. you woke up but god, how you wanted to go back to sleep. you could barely peel your eyes open.
you could feel mydei shifting beside you, preparing to wake. he slowly begun to rise out of the bed, shifting the mattress and blanket around you. if he got up, there was no way you'd be able to sleep again.
in your half-asleep state, you reached over to grab him without thinking, wrapping your arms around his torso and dragging him back down.
"y/n?" he mumbled out, shocked and tired.
"5 more minutes..."
"c'mon, we have to get up." he sighed, rubbing his eyes awake.
"it's a weekend, i just wanna sleeeep... you continued to grip his torso tightly."
"you're hopeless." he huffed, all the while retreating back into the sheets.
you continued to hold him tightly, as if he were a plushy. he couldn't help but blush faintly, grateful for the dimly lit room. he tentatively wrapped his arms around your body.
you accepted the warmth of the embrace before digging your head into the crook of his chest. he let out a breath as his cheeks continued to redden.
"...you're so warm." you mumbled, your voice vibrating through his chest. he tightened his grip on your body, one arm around your head and another around your waist.
he gently placed his head on your neck. his hair brushed against your collarbone, leaving your slightly ticklish.
you two laid there for a little while though neither could fall asleep. you could feel his heart thumping loudly as you continued to nestle into his chest. feeling his bashfulness, you couldn't help but feel a little conscience of yourself. your heart begun to pick up its pace.
you were now fully awake. your cheeks burning.
his hand begun to comb through your hair idly.
the light from the now risen sun begun to seep through your blinds, the golden rays kissing your blushing figures.
"...are you awake now?" his voice was hushed into your neck.
"mhm... but... can we stay like this for a little longer...?" you hesitantly breathed out.
he didn't respond, instead opting to hold you a little tighter under the warm sunlight.
you raised your face to meet his, raising your arms to wrap around his neck. his beautiful, golden eyes stared at yours. you slowly leaned in, planting a sweet kiss to his lips.
you pulled away with a dreamlike smile as he continued to stare. his arm wrapped around your head brought you closer to him once more as he reciprocated the sweet action. dipping your head into the crook of his neck afterwards.
you both stayed there for a while longer, basking in each other's warmth and pounding heartbeats.
Just like with all other sick people, you feel like shit.
The first culprit is your headaches. The migraine comes and goes, like someone had been gently hitting different areas of your head with a hammer. "Gently," but still, with a hammer.
Your throat is not much kinder to you. It simultaneously feels like you had swallowed feathers and knives. Between sneezing and the throbbing pain of you head, you would cough. You're lucky that your lungs are still in your body.
And then there was your body. When you tried getting out of bed this morning, your limbs felt like lead. Your head felt five times heavier than usual. Every step you take weighs you down as you shuffle around your apartment, aimlessly searching for a familiar warmth.
"My love,"
Mydei's warm hand gently takes your cold one. His other was on the small of your back to keep you steady if you were to fall over in your current state.
"Why are you here? If you needed anything from the kitchen, you could have texted me."
You look up to your partner's face, who looks more concerned than he is frustrated. Mydei knows that you're more than capable, but when you're sick, any small action he can take to ease your burden will be taken.
You walked here not for a glass of water, but rather because you miss his warmth.
Just a few moments ago, you had agreed to let him sleep in the spare guest room, not wanting to get him sick. You had never seen Mydei this conflicted over a seemingly trivial matter either, debating whether to remain by your side and potentially get sick, or sleep elsewhere and fret over you the entire night.
Eventually, you reassure him that you won't die because of a mild fever. There was nothing to really worry about, and you'll surely be good as new come tomorrow.
With his hand still in your own, you slowly make the short trip back to your shared room with Mydei in tow. He does not resist, knowing that more than anything in this moment, you needed him.
You go through the same procedure from before you left the room in search of him. You lie down, Mydei tucks you in and places his hand on your forehead to check your temperature. He remains seated at the edge of the bed after, waiting for you to say something. Or nothing at all. He'd stay until you have something to say, and maybe stay a little longer after that too.
"Stay," is all you manage to get out.
If you were any less delirious and exhausted from the fever, you would have known better. You were both logical people, but at your lowest and weakest, what more do you know how to do than to call out to him?
Mydei lets out a small, amused huff before once again taking your hand into his own. It was now burning hot, the blankets having done wonders to your body temperature. Despite that, you remain drawn to the comfortable warmth that Mydei always seems to radiate.
He places a light kiss on the back of your hand before brushing over the spot with his thumb in a soothing rhythmic motion. The combined quiet, warmth, and his presence lull you a little closer to dreamland.
"I thought you didn't want me to get sick," Mydei says. And that was true, except in your deluded, feverish state, you think that you want him close to you a little more than you want him to not be sick.
You respond by scooting as close to him as possible. You're sure that that was a clear enough answer.

hi, no worries, thank you so much for your request! i wasn't sure if you wanted this to be platonic or romantic but i have decided to make it up to interpretation (leaning to romantic) because why not! don't worry about character limits cause i think i've reached the limit on this site far too much in my drafts anyways. hope you enjoy!

you've always enjoyed cooking. it's been your favourite thing to do since you've been born out the womb.
ever since your mom let you touch that baby formula, you were ready to get to making.
okay, jokes aside. by 5, you were helping your dad mix ingredients. by 7, you were helping your mom knead dough. by 10, you were the next door's restaurant's little helper. by 12, you were cooking dinner for your family. 19 years old and you were the owner of a very successful restaurant. renowned across the cosmos.
often times, your visitors from afar would tell you tales of the food on their planet and you listened with intense interest.
sure, this restaurant was great. you got to cook whatever you wanted and see the joy on other's faces as they tried your food. but a part of you desired more. you wanted to learn new recipes, eat different cuisines, experiment with new ingredients.
and it seemed as though your prayers had been answered the very next day. a train you'd only heard about in stories, the astral express, docked on your planet, coming to try food from your restaurant.
four people came, they called themselves trailblazers, the nameless. a merry group who traveled across the cosmos, exploring and connecting between different civilisations. they'd be docked on this planet for a total of 7 days, as they did for all planets, and this marked day 7.
you were ashamed to admit that you got distracted from restaurant duty, listening and marvelling at their stories of each world.
the red haired lady named himeko let out a faint chuckle. "your eyes are sparkling, are you interested in the path of the trailblaze?"
you blushed in embarrassment at your lack of composure. "ah..." you rubbed the back of your neck sheepishly with a nod. "it just sounds like you all have had such wonderful experiences together. i'd love to hear more—if you're alright with that, of course!"
she smiled kindly, expression full of warmth. "of course. y'know, before these two, welt and i have had quite the adventures as well."
safe to say that you were a little disappointed as they finally finished their food, preparing to leave. the rest of the day, you were in a starstruck daze. what would it be like if you could spend your days cooking in space? travelling, experiencing new worlds? meeting and making new friends, trying new food.
ah, what a life.
11:00pm and you were closing up for the night, sweeping the floors and washing the pent up pile of dishes you hadn't gotten to due to, y'know, daydreaming...
the ring of a bell sounded through the restaurant as someone entered through the front door.
"sorry, we're closed for the night! if you need something, i can whip something up quickly with what i have..." you turned to face the person in front. "himeko?"
the navigator of the astral express... came back?
"i hope i'm not keeping you from your work..." her signature smile full of gentle warmth flashed across her face. she was... holding something in her palm though you couldn't see what exactly it was.
"oh, no at all! what do you need?" you quickly laid the broom against the nearby counter, approaching her with a chipper grin.
"i actually wanted to invite you to join the astral express on our trailblazing journey." she extended her palm with what you learned to be the astral express' boarding pass. the simple golden badge with a red ribbon that the nameless donned with honour.
your breath hitched, seeing the badge extended for you. your very own ticket to the stars.
honestly, there was nothing to debate in your mind. "yes, yes of course!" you were barely able to contain your excitement. the beautiful woman chuckled at your enthusiasm before flashing a grand smile.
"wonderful, i hoped you'd say that." she approached you, rapidly closing the distance in between you two. your eyes widened in shock, a burning blush creeping over your cheeks. you bit your tongue in confusion, holding yourself back from saying anything out of pocket. himeko approached, so close that your noses were nearly touching.
she then bent down ever so slightly to attach the pass to your outfit. after the faint click! of the pin, she pat your chest with a proud smile and backed away. "there we go."
you let out a puff of air after holding it from the close distance. the tips of your ears red. you could hear her chuckle as if she knew exactly what she was doing. what a tease.
well, now you had to pack. and pass the restaurant on to someone. and tell your parents. and—oh god, there was so much to do.
"we'll hold the express for one day, get everything you need to do done. maybe, treat us to one last meal here?" you smiled and nodded. already brimming with excitement to get on the road.
anyways, enough backstory and lore and whatever. we only care about the shenanigans you've been up to. after all, that's a part of the reason you joined, no?
so. you just had one hell of a journey on amphoreus. you, the trailblazer, and dan heng begun the journey but... ugh, how to even explain?
whatever. didn't matter. all that mattered was that the express had a new temporary passenger. on top of your other temporary passengers.
you weren't complaining. not one bit. it was a guilty pleasure of yours: learning others' tastes and catering food to them.
himeko was your first customer on the express.
she was also your favourite (don't tell the others.)
maybe it's because she was the one who invited you, maybe it's because her preferences were interesting to figure out and work around, maybe it's because she was just really pretty...
anyways. she enjoyed bitter tastes. and she really liked her coffee. she even made her own! only black; no milk, no sugar. the other express members seemed to take issue with it. meanwhile you and dan heng were the only ones who seemed to put in a good word. dan heng seemed like the type to like bitter foods anyways.
you? you've just learnt to stomach everything. no matter what. a trained ability from being a child chef. sometimes she uses you to test out her coffee blends since the other members would evacuate after the first sip of one cup.
thus, she's taken quite a liking to you! and you've obviously taken quite a liking to her.
it's not every day you meet someone who can stomach and actually thoroughly enjoys bitter things. meaning you've been able to test out so many ingredients with her. bitter melon, cranberries, dandelions, citrus peels... it's been great. you've also made many coffee desserts using her brews for the other members of the crew since they required a bit more sugar to stomach it.
she's found a lot of joy in watching the members ingest her coffee without grimacing, in fact, with dreamy smiles on their faces. she was so glad you boarded the express.
she was so glad, in fact, that there wasn't a day where she didn't rave about you.
how adorable you were, how considerate you were, how brave you were. here are some (definitely not all) of the anecdotes the express has heard one too many times:
1. you consider preferences, portion sizes, schedule, health, and more when preparing meals. since the newest passenger from the herta space station, you've had to increase your workload. you like to emphasize and uphold the 'three meals a day' quota.
cooking for 7 different members, all with different preferences was no easy feat. march loved her sweets, dan heng liked soothing, bland foods, himeko loved her bitters and mx. stellaron? they ate anything. you once caught them digging through the trash cans of belobog...
one time, march came to you early in the morning, telling you she craved photogenic eggs so you made an egg-centric breakfast for everyone. it was a great opportunity for you to test out different omelettes and ingredients anyways. sweet omelettes, bitter omelettes, salty omelettes.
anyways, you always make sure they eat their protein, carbs, fruits and veggies, grains, and liquid. march wasn't big on vegetables but you were somehow able to make her finish every last green in your stock. how? well, if a child (march 7th) didn't want to eat kale, the best way to make them eat it was to bake it into a cake!
2. when exploring a new planet, you obviously browse all the ingredients possible. what she finds adorable is that you link each ingredient to someone. no one fully understands what your criteria are... but you'll see quinoa and think of dan heng. coconut milk is pom-pom. hazelnut for welt. the list goes on. at every single planet. without fail.
she'll often stumble across you staring intently at a cranberries, deep in thought. "himeko..." you'd mutter under your breath.
what himeko loves about this little habit of yours is that you're constantly thinking of everyone. how she loved on how considerate you were. she prided herself in knowing the express had made such an impact on you. oh, and how she'd love to learn more about how you see the passengers of the express. and herself.
she'll ask to go grocery shopping with you, just to observe how your mind works. she'll cary your bags so you can continue browsing with stars in your eyes. "you would love this!" you beamed, eyes focused on the box in front of you. she can't help but break into a smile.
3. you're great company.
she'll often sit at your little bar late once everyone has retired to their rooms, leaning her head against her palm so perfectly on the table with a kind smile. you two end up talking into the late hours of the night as you try out being a bartender for the night.
what's the topic of the conversation? anything and everything. sometimes she'll ask what ingredients she reminds you of, sometimes you'll talk about the past. maybe the weather (in space), planets, interests, the other passengers, people you've met on your travels. you never seem to run out of things to talk about.
your laughs often echo through the cart until welt decides to join you two. then dan heng. then march. himeko would offer to brew a cup of coffee for the obviously sleep-deprived march to which she would immediately awaken and shake her head vigorously.
its those nights you find yourself ever so grateful that she welcomed you back then. you wondered what would've become of you should you have stayed? this warmth in your chest would be all but a feeling you'd continue to chase. you let yourself bask in these moments of connection, eyes softening at the sight of your companions.
you and himeko shared a cheers for the friends you've made.
your first trailblazing experience with the galactic baseballer (what they told you to refer to them as) was penacony, the land of festivities.
you went in bright eyed and bushy tailed, excited to finally be able to experiment with the renowned soulglad and meet professional bartenders. as you first entered to the hotel, your merry bunch had a bit of a scuffle that was resolved with the entrance of the head of the oak family. sunday.
he caught your eye almost instantly. partially because you were a big fan of his sister, but also because he seemed so composed for someone so young. listen, not like you were older than him, but that composure was usually not something that came easy.
his tie was straight, not a single wrinkle in his clothes, all buttons perfectly done, shoes shined. completely and utterly picturesque. he never adjusted his clothes in the time you'd seen him. not once. everything was completely in order.
there was a lot going on during penacony. schemes, plots, motives. to be honest, while the astral express was at the heart of the entire thing, your group was often split. you were enjoying the discovery of foods and drinks in both the dreamscape and the real world.
what was interesting, however, was how much you ran into sunday.
you'd assumed it was pure coincidence but it was interesting nonetheless.
the first time you saw him, you approached him with a warm smile, thanking him for his help during your first day. he nodded with a smile before departing. you thought that'd be the last you saw of him.
then he just... kept showing up? you weren't sure if he wanted to talk so you just offered a polite wave every time you saw him. sometimes he saw you and reciprocated, other times he passed by without seeing you, something obviously on his mind.
and then a bunch of destruction and adventures unfolded and you barely had the time to even think about him. and then you all battled him, left penacony to go on more adventures and stuff, a new temporary passenger called black swan. everything from then on was a blur. you still saw him in your dreams sometimes, though you weren't sure why exactly. maybe that trip left a lasting impression on you.
one fateful day, you all had returned to penacony, running and errand (and running around aimlessly). actually, better to say you strayed from the group (tingyun, march and mx. stellaron) to buy some soulglad! you had to stock up.
it was that day, you were carrying a bunch of heavy bags full of ingredients, making your way back to the express. a nice lady of penacony and a pepeshi approached, offering to help you with your bags. you were hesitant to make someone else work for you but you ended up accepting the offer in the end.
she was quite wise, her voice carried a weight one shouldn't normally bear. you decided not to press on her past, allowing you two to simply talk in the moment. once you'd reached the express, you gave her your sincerest gratitudes.
you turned your back to enter the express but you paused before turning around. "um, pardon me if this sounds rude but... you seem familiar. have we met before?"
the woman paused, her breath hitching. she didn't respond. "never mind. you don't have to answer that if you don't feel comfortable. thank you so much for your help once again!" you turned back to the express, leaving her to star at your retreating figure. a faint smile blessed her features before she turned away with the shake of a head.
later that day, you were refilling the fridge, cooking dinner for everyone.
and then suddenly a familiar non-passenger entered the cart. though he wore different clothes, he kept the same composure he held the day you first met. this time with a burden off of his shoulders. "mr sunday??" you blurted out in confusion.
"hello, ms. y/n. i hope you are doing well." you paused, with the knife still in your hands.
and then welt called everyone to the parlor car, with a special announcement. you were so very confused.
apparently, sunday was temporarily joining the express. to find an answer to a question he didn't know just yet.
well, that was news to you. but of course, you welcomed him with open arms.
oh wait! but that meant you had to cook dinner for 9 now!
you happily accepted the challenge.
first step: find out what he enjoyed.
sunday was a tough nut to crack.
much like dan heng when you first joined, he was very reserved and never really talked much about himself. he ate everything you made which made it impossible to determine what he actually enjoyed, he ate very methodically, maintaining his collectedness every hour of every day.
sometimes, you'd catch him sitting on a chair, staring out into the cosmos absentmindedly.
this was your only chance to get to know him for the first few days. you'd take the seat across from him (with his permission of course), setting down a soothing brew of green tea. he nodded politely, expressing gratitude.
you two sat in silence for a while, very unlike him. you'd observed that every time he was alone with someone, he'd masterfully strike up a conversation, making him easy to talk to. perhaps he was taking a break from the necessity of small talk.
unfortunately for him, you wanted to break the ice. "it's beautiful, isn't it?" he turned his head to you in intrigue. "the first time i joined the express, i was so nervous. everyone seemed so close and i felt like i didn't belong." his attention fully shifted to you. "once everyone fell asleep, i'd sit here and stare out at the galaxy, wondering if i made the right decision. maybe one of those little specs was my home. maybe my family was there somewhere." he listened intently.
"how... did you first adjust here?" his voice was a lot softer, it felt more personal than his usual.
you chuckled at the question, staring out at the sea of stars. "himeko."
he rose an eyebrow at your vague response.
"she would come sit at this table while i was lost in thought and offered me a cup of coffee. she broke the ice when i was too scared to. she'd often sit at the bar while i cooked for the express, just to keep me company." you explained with a fond smile. "i would tell her about my concerns. how i thought dan heng hated me. how i was scared to approach march 7th. how i barely ever saw welt. how i thought i'd never get used to this life and that maybe i wasn't fit for this crew. and then she'd tell me, 'just try'. simple, right? i just needed to talk to these people. let time work its magic. and suddenly, before i knew it, these people had become my family."
you turned your gaze to meet his. "it's scary at first, but i promise you, you'll fit right in. you're already one of us."
his lips parted to speak. then he closed them again, unsure of what to say. "you were the woman who helped me, right?"
his eyes widened. "how did you..."
"you had the same vibe." you shrugged.
"...same vibe?"
"yeah, the whole 'i've been through so much but i appear completely put together' kind of vibe. actually, most of the express has that vibe too. dan heng, welt, himeko..."
"...thank you...i suppose?"
"pft—" you couldn't help but sneak a giggle at his dumbfounded expression. "sorry, it's just... i've never seen you look so disconcerted before." you grinned. "aaaanyways, i just wanted to thank you again for your help back then. you might not realize it, but you've already been accepted by the express. welt's taken quite a liking to you."
"...and you?"
"huh?"
"how do you feel about my... appearance here."
"i'm glad you're here. oh, but! there is one thing that really bugs me about you..." he looked at you with a mix of confusion and fear in his eyes. "you've gotta tell me what you like! i need to know so i can actually make food you enjoy! you're so reserved and closed-off, we don't do that here! i'm gonna make sure i learn what you enjoy, if it's the last thing i do!"
his eyes were wide as he blinked once. and then he broke out into a laugh. still elegant, but his laughter resonated with a warmth it hadn't contained before.
that day, you two spent god knows how long just talking. very slowly, you got him to open up to you. he talked about his childhood, his sister, everything he used to cherish. in fact, neither of you got a wink of sleep. but... you did manage to drag the rest of the crew down with you.
you see, you two had moved to your bar after a while as he told you about his old love for pudding tarts. obviously, you sat him down as you begun to make it, putting every ounce of care you could into making sure this was the best iteration of that dessert he's ever tasted.
your cooking and clamouring managed to wake himeko, black swan, and welt who came and sat beside sunday as you worked. you'd decided to make enough pudding tarts for everyone on the express. mx. stellaron crawled out of their room which they normally stayed awake until the late hours of the night playing video games. dan heng came next as the bustle from the crew stirred him awake. finally, march 7th woke at the sweet, enticing smell of dessert.
thus, the 8 of you merrily tasted and toasted to the very first pudding tarts made on the express, and to the new friend you'd all made. the night was filled with laughter and warmth, as well as new discoveries and broken ice.
during all the chatter, sunday turned to face you. "thank you, y/n."
you smiled. "for what?"
you two shared another laugh, though it would most certainly not be the last of the night.
then came your adventure to amphoreus. wow, what a journey that was. you disembarked from the express with both the galactic baseballer and dan heng.
a lot happened. long story short, you met someone named mydeimos.
a very, very muscular guy from somewhere called castrum kremnos. apparently, he was its crown prince. neat!
anyways, you three nameless ended up splitting quite a lot; galactic baseballer and phainon, dan heng and the library, and you and mydei.
it was an unexpected pairing, to be honest. out of everyone you were to be around, no one really expected it to be mydei.
but you'd found out he was a cook. and i mean, c'mon. how could you not strike up a conversation?
he was actually a pretty easy to talk to guy and you both hit it off almost instantly.
you learned that he believed cooking was an essential aspect of being a warrior. a contrasting opinion to many of the 'warriors' you've met, it was such a breath of fresh air.
now, you weren't exactly a fighter. you never really picked up a weapon, unless you count a kitchen knife. during all of your adventures, you've either been able to avoid conflict directly, or you'd take the rear, offering support instead of being on the offensive.
mydei was not having it. he insisted that since you were joining the chrysos heirs on their flame chase journey, you must learn to be a warrior.
so in any downtime you possibly had, he'd be teaching you the basics of fighting. either that or you'd be training, or sparring.
maybe you two would even share a meal!
and then spar.
my god, you were exhausted. but you had to admit, you were having fun. you were in no way a match for him, he obviously held back on you. but the rush that came in a fight was exhilarating.
never in a million years did you think this was where you'd end up, but you couldn't be happier about it.
during the battle against strife, you stayed by mydei, though he told you not to. you knew this wasn't a battle you could win, but you stayed anyways. be it to support, to heal, or to cover for him, you didn't leave him alone.
and though it was a brutal fight, he was thankful that you stayed.
in fact, you were by his side for the majority of the journey.
you were there was he confronted his fears and talked to the people of kremnos. you were there as he finally claimed the coreflame of strife. you were there as he finally stepped on to the battlefield, piercing the spear of nikador through the flame reaver. and you saw him off as he went to claim the throne of kremnos.
it was a bittersweet farewell. but you both promised that you'd see each other again. "you better stay safe, mydeimos." you huffed with a smirk.
"i could say the same to you. keep on training. just because i'm not around doesn't mean you can slack off."
"wouldn't dream of it. after all, there's no word for 'slacking off' in the kremnoan language, right?"
you left each other with smiles, unknowing to just how much could change.
amphoreus took years off of your life. literally. finding out mydei had died was already way too much for you to handle. and then you learned he existed in the river of souls, still clawing his way back to life. and then everyone started dying. titans and friends. and then somehow, you and dan heng were to return to the train while mx. stellaron stayed behind. that didn't feel right to you but it was what you had to do.
long story short: your body was somehow still on amphoreus while your soul—or maybe—your memories flew around back on the express. you and dan heng both found your ways back to amphoreus, though you two got separated along the way. he landed before you but you managed to make it back for the final fight! and you were able to reunite with mydei. okay, this long story short is becoming a long story so, to cut to the chase:
all is well now. the friends you'd made on amphoreus were now hanging out on the express. you found yourself cooking dinner for... oh god. way more than 9. luckily you learnt a lot about most of them, but some of them you'd never met. and that was a lot of people...
thankfully, you had mydei as assistance.
"you supported me during nikador's battle, it's only fair i support you now." boy, was it great to cook with someone else. someone experienced at that. it's been a while since you'd been able to do that. what a weight off of your shoulders.
and it was quite surreal since you two hadn't seen each other in a while. maybe it was shorter for him, maybe it was shorter for you, but you were glad he was still alive and kicking.
you two had a lot of fun, talking, catching up, joking around. you may have started a food fight that got everyone else on the express involved and made dinner arrive just a little later...
listen, mydei was critiquing your skills as a fighter! and you worked your butt off to keep up with him. again, you were a chef, not a fighter. so, you showed him just how fierce you could be when you had food in your hand and not a large mace.
you may have thrown a scoop of mashed potatoes his way. and he may have taken that as a challenge and thrown another scoop back. and then phainon popped up, joining your team in the pursuit against mydei. and then more and more people got involved.
mashed potatoes were getting thrown everywhere. one from cyrene to phainon. hyacine threw one to dan heng. dan heng threw one at march to which she shot one back. cipher kept throwing ball after ball at castorice in an attempt to rile her up. the three tribie and tribios teamed up on agleaa and trianne and aglaea was able to sneak a hit on anaxagoras. hysilens and cerydra were duking it out. little ica was somehow untouched in all of the chaos. cyrene and the galactic baseballer teamed up, launching everything they had at phainon. at some point, someone had gotten a hold of the frozen peas in the first aid area. you swore anaxa loaded his gun with peas.
honestly, you were too busy fighting a fierce battle against mydei. you were in far too deep to back out now. and he would never willingly quit a challenge. you had to defeat him.
but your burning competition quickly turned into an echo of laughs throughout the car. you two looked at each other, covered in potatoes and peas and you laughed. you laughed harder than ever before.
cleanup was a nightmare. not for you, of course. you won.
cleanup was a nightmare for everyone else. while you finished up dinner, everyone was forced to wipe all of the mashed potato peas mess off of the floors and walls by hand. your rule: no powers. and you forced mydei to lead the charge.
you could've sworn phainon and mydei made a bet out of who could clean the most of the express (mydei won). you just finished plating with the brightest smile you'd worn in a while, still stuck in the adrenaline of the food fight.
while everyone else went to take a seat with their delicious dinner, absolutely spent from cleaning, mydei came and sat at your part of the bar.
"you don't wanna eat? c'mon, we spent so long on that." you questioned, wiping some mashed potato off of a wine glass.
"i could say the same for you." he shot back.
"i just need to wipe off the kitchen since none of you cleaned it." you complained jokingly.
"'nobody touches the kitchen', huh?"
"i'm 100% sure cipher would've stolen everything i own. and someone was sure to spray water in the food."
"i'll go eat when you go. kremnoans eat together." you smiled with a shake of your head.
"fine, fine, you win. cleaning can wait, let's go." you sighed in defeat. he chuckled with a prideful huff, his arms crossed.
the two of you easily joined the dinner table as the laughter continued through the night.
once almost everyone had left to do other tasks, you begun to take all of the dirty dishes to your kitchen to finish cleaning. you thought everyone had left but it seemed as though mydei stayed behind, picking up all the plates and glasses you couldn't handle.
"thanks, mydei. seriously, you can go chat with the others."
he huffed in annoyance. "we kremnoans have respect. we don't leave one person to handle all the labour."
you rolled your eyes with a smile. "if you insist, your majesty. i suppose i can't refuse."
you two talked into the late hours of the night. joking, teasing, heart-to-hearts. it was such a breath of fresh air after whatever amphoreus was.
perhaps it was because you both knew he'd be staying on amphoreus as you'd leave to continue your journey, but you both savoured every second of that night.
strangely enough, this didn't feel like a goodbye, nor a farewell. more like a... see you soon. tomorrow maybe.
"next time you visit, we are going to spar so you better keep training when i'm not away."
"i'll have you know i've gotten much better. why, i could even beat you!" you joked, flexing your arms.
he chuckled. "bold words. are you sure you won't regret that?"
"you'll just have to marvel at my strength next time!"
you both broke out into laughter, ever so grateful that you'd met. grateful that you came to amphoreus. grateful that you'd accepted the trailblaze.
the path of the trailblaze was filled with goodbyes. but to you, they were far from the last farewells. these goodbyes meant connections. people you'd met, people you'd care for. people who would always live in your memory.
hi, saw that ask box is open and is it alright for me to request separate headcanon of the amphoreus men getting turn into chimeras and f!reader finds them, who mistook them for Fig Stew/Nanus/Vigethos starts cooing/baby talking, petting and giving treats... btw I hope you have a good day when you receive this!
— ✦ CHIMERA CUTIES ::
— ✧ phainon x fem!reader, mydei x fem!reader, anaxas x fem!reader
thank you so much for your request, of course it's alright!! i'm a big fluff fan so this was such a fun write for me and omg the chimeras are so cute!! i actually haven't played hsr since its release so i don't know much lore about this even but hopefully you still enjoy! (the idea is that all of these stories happened at the same time but to different people and to different partners.)
not on his part, of course. anaxagoras is thorough, he doesn't make miscalculations when it comes to any experiment. that said, he made a slight oversight. he forgot to take into account a small variable that threw everything off course.
an unlocked door and a small troublemaker chimera named nanus.
anaxagoras had a love-hate relationship with nanus. a chimera that was both intelligent (much like him), but also extremely... outwards with its affection (extremely unlike him). it came of use when he was working late, the chimera managed to speed up and even test some hypotheses which he much appreciated. that said, whenever you were around; its composed nature seemed to vanish as it instantly clung to your side like a pest, nuzzling and snuggling like a touch-starved beast. how unbecoming.
you gave it far too much attention for such a devilish, scheming creature. it understood how to secure a nice, cozy spot in your heart. it kicked out competition and strove for more. whenever it was around, it somehow managed to divert your attention from him entirely. every time you three were together, he always found himself leaving with a funny feeling in his chest.
jealousy? pfft. yeah, right. him? he was your partner, what did he have to be jealous of? but... he was curious as to what it was like to bask and bathe in your affection like nanus.
a slight alchemical mishap.
that was the story he prepared.
anaxagoras forgetting about such a variable? leaving his door open? as if. he merely staged it to be that way. so that he could... test out his new hypothesis. his new research topic. purely to fill his curiosity.
he left his door slightly ajar, spreading the aroma of a chimera's favourite flower on an alchemical circle and waited patiently.
his plan worked out perfectly. as soon as his door busted open and a familiar fluffy creature flew towards his work at full speed, he let out a small puff of air with a smirk before closing his eye in preparation.
the world faded to black for a slight moment. and then... he opened his eye to a much lower vision than before. it worked. he shifted his gaze down to his mint green paws before turning his gaze to the side.
there stood his body. and what he was sure to be nanus inside. after all, the laws of equivalent exchange in alchemy must always be applied.
no worries, however. he planned for this.
leaving his body locked and sedated in his office was a small price to pay for this experiment.
now to find you. that was easy. what kind of a significant other would he be if he didn't know your schedule and your favourite spots. he just had to... get used to walking in this body,
meanwhile, you were strolling around the woven trail as you normally did, basking in the light air of the green-filled grove.
it was then that a familiar creature rubbed against your ankles.
"nanus!" you beamed, immediately crouching down to pet the fluffy creature. "hi baby!" you grinned, picking up the little guy in your arms.
it merely stared at you, its cheek warm against your chest. you tilted your head slightly. "hmm... you're acting pretty calm today, huh? i guess you become more like anaxa by the day." you sighed dreamily as a faint blush appeared on the tips of your cheeks. snapping out of your daze, you planted a little kiss on its nose. "aww, you're still so cute... i just wanna—" you cut yourself off, placing a hand on its head and ruffling its fur as it happily chirped in response. "speaking of... where is anaxa? it's not every day i see you two apart."
nanus' eye narrowed slightly, expression unreadable. it immediately followed that odd expression with some adorable affection. its little tongue lapping your hand with a jolly expression. your concern immediately melted away at the sight. "aw... whatever, i'm sure he's busy. you're just so cute!! my little baby!" he had to admit, seeing such a cheery smile on your face filled him both with bliss, but also that same odd feeling one would usually name jealousy.
"i have some of your favourite treats at my house, why don't i take you!" you placed him on your shoulder where it normally sat. he nuzzled against your cheek and you melted. "aww you're so cute! yes you are!" you landed a couple scratches behind his ears in your state of bliss. he purred and softened almost completely into your touch.
anaxa then realized that perhaps being pampered wasn't the worst thing in the world.
you walked merrily back to your humble abode, setting him down on your couch and making your way to your cupboard to collect his favourite treats. the rustling of the bag usually made nanus' ears perk up in excitement before it ran to you in a hurry, hoping to gorge on the delicacy from your fingertips. this time, he stayed on the couch, expression still unreadable.
you see, anaxagoras was wondering if he'd take this opportunity to try chimera treats. or if that'd be far too humiliating. while debating, he curled himself up against the dromas pillow you and him had bought together. it smelled like you. he found he always gravitated towards it while you were together.
you walked over with the bag of treats, sat right beside him and extended a hand to pet him on the head. his eyes shut in pleasure as more purrs escaped his mouth. "ugh... what a cutie... well then! i suppose you've been waiting patiently for your treats, haven't you?" you then reached into the bag of treats, pulling one out and extending it towards him, a smile still plastered on your face.
he looked conflicted. his body paused before the treat, opening his mouth without jumping and biting without hesitation. he looked up at your expression only to be left in absolute shock.
the adoring, warm smile was replaced by something a little more sinister. "what's the matter, nanus? this is your favourite! you always jump for joy and go crazy like there's no tomorrow when i bring these out!" you voice slowly morphed to be poutier; teasing and knowing.
his mouth slowly dropped wide open as you brought the treat closer and closer to his retreating figure. "anaxa—oh, i mean—nanus... what's wrong?" you giggled at his expression. "you haven't turned mute, have you?"
"you..."
"honestly anaxa, you underestimate me. i think i would know the different between you and nanus." you finally put the treat down, extending your arm to pet him once more. "if you wanted to be pampered, all you had to do was ask." what a devilish woman you were.
this was an actual oversight. the first he's made in a long while. perhaps he underestimated your love for him. but, all's well that ends well, no? after all, though he'd been found out, you still made quite an effort to pamper him throughout the day, and only him.
he reassured you that his body would be fine and while you were still nervous, you understood that you hadn't given much attention to anaxa for a while, so why not let him have his fun for today?
and perhaps, when he reverted back to his old body, you'd continue to shower him with the same love and affection, now knowing he craved it so.
mydeimos' story
he had absolutely no clue how this happened.
honestly, how did a bet with phainon go so wrong?
he should've known something was wrong the second this HKS approached him with the widest, mischievous smile plastered on his face.
seriously, this guy always seemed to land some of the most... interesting deals to put it lightly. some potion that could transform you into a chimera?
chimeras were already quite a handful. curious creatures as they were, my god what troublemakers. you did seem to enjoy them, however. which is why when a chimera resembling him (he didn't agree) suddenly appeared, you'd immediately declared it was to be your child. you brought it home, no hesitation.
he never admitted it, but he found the chimeras quite... pleasing to have around.
he never told anyone but he'd made a channel on the world wound web showcasing the many chimeras of okhema simply goofing around. originally, he made it for your enjoyment, but at some point he grew fond of the creatures himself.
anyways, back to his regret. why did he agree to phainon's stupid proposition? he honestly, truly, sincerely didn't know. one might say he was inclined to do so because of your adoration for the creatures. he wouldn't say that. he'd say it was because... because his comrade desperately begged him to and he took pity on him (yeah, right.)
well, it was too late to brood. he was now almost identical to his chimera counterpart (which, again, he didn't agree with) and sought you out almost immediately.
the bet was simple: who'd be found out first. see, he and phainon both believed their partners knew them better than they knew themselves honestly, so which one would be the better actor. that was the bet.
mydei knew phainon would be a worthy opponent in this battle. after all, his natural aura matched almost entirely that of his counterpart. an overbearing puppy. phainon also wasn't one to be easily embarrassed so he wouldn't give in just like that.
too bad for him, fig stew—the foolish name you'd given it—was a dignified creature. aloof and composed. sometimes, it would let its guard down around you and give in to your affections. he spent enough time around fig stew to understand its mannerisms. this would be a breeze.
he said that but the second he saw you, he was stun locked, to say the least.
he was not prepared for your tooth-rotting sweet talk. he's seen you do it so many times, but for it to be directed towards him? entirely new experience. the second he appeared behind you, placing a small paw on your ankle like fig stew often did, you turned around with the brightest smile he'd seen. "hi figgy!!" you squealed, immediately kneeling down to squeeze his cheeks.
he opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was a small little "awoo!"
that actually awakened something in you. "oh my god!! ughh, you're too cute! my little baby... what a cutie..." you kept hurling compliments and baby talk at him and he truly didn't know how to respond.
your touch was so gentle and so warm that he couldn't help but melt into it. he let out a small purr, leaning into your touch. you actually gasped. incoherent sentences flew out of your mouth as your eyes sparkled.
he knew you were such a cheery presence. you brightened up any room you went in like the sun incarnate. it was one of your traits that drew him to you. but he'd never experienced it in full force. your aggression towards cute things was not to be underestimated.
"how are you still so adorable after all this time!! ughhh!!" you immediately lifted him into your arms and buried your head into his fur. if he wasn't paralyzed already, he would've most certainly been now.
he tried to snap out of it, but the gentle plush of your lips against his body made him short-circuit. "hmm... i should go find mydei..." you mumbled to yourself, the gentle vibrations of your voice reverberated against his fur.
realizing the bet was in danger, his body reacted almost instantly, nuzzling into the crook of your neck to distract you.
the squeak let out by you was not human. you held him up with your arms extended like simba, holding him up to the sun like he was a god sent angel. you then brought him close, planting a kiss on his nose. and then another kiss. and then another.
and somehow, he was frozen once more. this actually felt quite nice. wait... what? he was enjoying this? no. it was only because he knew he was winning this bet.
him liking your pampering? nope, it's just the sweet scent of victory that gave him butterflies in his stomach.
butterflies, huh? somehow in all the time together, you've never failed to give them to him. you always seemed to do something new. this was certainly... new.
he wasn't complaining.
perhaps he was enjoying this.
well then, it wouldn't hurt to let you enjoy this moment as well.
and so, for the rest of the day, you two spent minute after minute making each other's smiles widen. a never ending battle of joy. and mydei was determined to have the last laugh, after all: 'giving up' wasn't something that existed in the kremnoan language.
he ended up forgetting all about the bet a while in. but at the very end of the day, you two were cuddled in bed; your head resting on his fluffy stomach. and just as the clock struck twelve, he poofed back into his regular, sturdy self. your head still resting on his chest.
you squinted your eyes open at the new sensation, he awaited your reaction.
you made eye contact with a smug mydeimos. most definitely proud of his ruse. you only replied with a smile. "welcome back, mydei."
wait, wait, wait, wait. what was with that reaction.
you giggled at his face twisted in confusion. your laugh resonated through his chest, making his heart shake. "c'mon, of course i knew it was you." you sighed, placing a hand on his chest. "who would i be if i didn't?" you shut your eyes again, preparing to fall back asleep. "thanks for today, mydei. you've made me very happy."
well. did he lose the bet? who knows. who cares. seeing your face in complete comfort and relaxation, he let out a small chuckle. it was worth it. perhaps that's why he accepted the bet. all for your adorable smile.
totally worth it.
phainon's story
listen, when a totally not shady vendor tells you they have a potion on sale that can transform you into a chimera and your girlfriend loves those little creatures, would you not instantly buy two with no hesitation and test it out with your best friend by proposing a bet to see who would get found out first by their partner?
no?
really?
be honest, now.
because phainon totally would. no regrets.
well... maybe one regret.
seeing you, a normally so composed person act so lovey-dovey with who you thought to be vigethos may have sparked a little flame of jealousy inside of him.
listen, he knew you loved him. it's just that... you're normally so put together that seeing you act like this gave him such whiplash. he swore he'd never seen you act like this. ever. not even with vigethos. do you only act like this when he's away?
if he was human, he'd be pouting.
i mean, seriously. look at you.
"hi baby!! aww you're so cute!! come here!!" what????
since when were you able to talk like this? voice pitched up, words babbled and incoherent, barely restraining your hands from petting him all over.
how come you were never like this with him? did you not find him attractive...?
like, he knew you loved chimeras. that's why he agreed to adopt vigethos in spite of his voice-out jealousy. after all, you'd spent far too much time with vigethos and not enough time with him. but seeing how soft your gaze was when looking at the little thing, he swore you struck an arrow through his heart. only because it was you.
but if he had known you'd be giving this guy so much affection he wouldn't have let this happen!
you snapped him out of his thoughts almost instantly when you gave him a couple scratches behind the ears. he melted under your touch, his ears falling to the sides as a loud purr escaped his mouth.
you instantly sat down on a nearby bench, placing him and cradling him in your lap with adoring coos.
he was no thoughts, head empty. bet forgotten, jealousy forgotten; just pure bliss. "you're so much cuter in this form..." you beamed, scratching his belly.
"awoo!" he replied, still basking in your affection. seriously, head empty, no thoughts. not a one.
you booped him on the nose with your finger. "what a cutie you are!" his little tail flicked joyfully from underneath as he continued to lean into your touch.
every time you brought your hand to pet him, he would reach his head out to nuzzle into your palm. you chuckled under your breath at the action. "you're so adorable, phainon." you continued singing praises to his ears as his tail continued to wag. "i don't think even vigethos is this cute."
"awoo!" he affirmed, still completely oblivious to your words.
you honestly wondered how long it would take for him to realize. you really tried to hold back your laugh, masking it with more high pitched tenderness.
you could stop petting him to let him process everything, maybe even break the news. but... where's the fun in that? you were enjoying this little game, he was obviously enjoying the situation (though he did not understand a single thing that was going on), so why not let this game go on for a little longer?
but you severely underestimated how long this game would go on for. perhaps you had too much faith in phainon's... thinking skills.
listen, he's usually extremely sharp and perceptive. maybe the whole being-in-a-chimera's-body awoke something in him. perhaps he really liked being pet...? you'd have to test this out when he returned to his normal body.
anyways. he passed out. so you brought him back to your place, placing him on your bed with a blanket overtop him. you then sat down and watched the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest. completely relaxed and serene. you smiled, placing his paw in your hand and allowing yourself to drift into a deep sleep.
the clock struck twelve and he returned back to his normal body, but neither of you woke. the change back would not surprise you and he was knocked out.
but phainon is an early riser. old habits die hard so he obviously woke before you. he woke to feel the warmth of your hands wrapped around his.
he gazed upon your sleeping face as a faint pink lit up the tips of his ears. he brushed a strand of hair from your face with his free arm before rising his torso up off of the soft, cushy mattress.
and then he recalled the events of yesterday. and he fell back down immediately in embarrassment. his face was red.
the impact of him hitting the bed was enough to awaken you from your slumber.
the first sight you saw as you opened your eyes was a flushed phainon lying back straight against the bed, eyes shut in an attempt to look asleep (but they were far too tense and furrowed to fool anyone).
you giggled at the sight. "hm? i wonder where vigethos went. i could've sworn i spent the full day pampering him. how curious, phainon is exactly where vigethos was... what could that possibly mean?" you drew out each and every sentence as his face grew redder and redder and his grip around your hand continued to tighten.
"...okay...enough..." he mumbled, cupping a hand over his face in embarrassment. he turned his head to look at you, blush absolutely furious across his cheeks. "you couldn't have warned me?"
you laughed. "oh, i definitely tried, phai." you could feel the burning heat emanating from his hand in yours. "i didn't know you'd enjoy being pet so much." you teased, ruffling his hair.
he pulled you in close, pouting at your satisfied face. "you're so mean..."
all the laughter you held the day before broke out looking at his face. "you're adorable." you grinned, planting a sweet kiss on his forehead.
"well, that's not fair." he sighed in a daze as you pulled away. "i'll have to get my revenge somehow." he tried to calm his racing heartbeat to no avail. he decided thus that he'd play it off; try to get you flustered instead. he pulled you closer once more and landed a kiss on your lips this time. and then your cheek. and then your forehead. and then your neck. your collarbone.
he pulled away, observing your newly reddened face. he grinned with a self-satisfied smirk. "i can't believe you..." you sighed with a smile.
the golden beams of dawn filtered through your blinds, illuminating your lovestruck faces with the morning light.
though he'd suffered far too much humiliation, he couldn't have asked for anyone better to witness him in those moments.
he may have lost the bet, but he definitely won elsewhere.
. . . synopsis: cooking a romantic morning meal with boyfriend!mydei but the cooking process is anything BUT romantic.
. . . wc: 1.2k
. . . notes: might be ooc, established relationship, mydei has the patience of a saint (i think), reader is slightly impatient when it comes to cooking, they (kinda) bicker like an old married couple, fluff !!
“Where’d you leave the onion powder?” Mydei asks while chopping up some bell peppers, centering his focus on twisting the placental wall out, setting the seeds aside on a piece of paper. “You said you bought some from the supermarket not so long ago.”
“…It’s somewhere alright, I tossed it somewhere in the pantry because I was too lazy to organize it and now I can’t find it.” You shrug, your voice echoing from inside the pantry, your neck hurting from craning it for too long.
You stare at the intimidating variety of condiments and spices at the top shelf and organized in a way only Mydei can understand. Probably. “I’ll…” You gulp, picking up random condiments and spices that don’t even have labels on them.
How does he even—
You sigh deeply, already starting to regret ever pitching this ‘cute’ idea to him in the first place. “Just give me a moment!!” You glance down at one of the spices you picked— a mysterious red powder that made your nose crinkle upon sniffing its fumes accidentally. This one is definitely not onion powder.
“A very long moment…”
It was no secret your boyfriend was the better chef from the two of you, he held a cooking prowess you lacked and you were completely fine with it. Especially when that same cooking prowess is used to make sure you don’t eat the same “pathetic” sandwich every morning and evening.
You can hold your own in the kitchen as well, though you rarely ever step foot in the kitchen for longer than an hour. There was hardly a need when you often grabbed two slices of bread, slapped them together with ham and cheese in-between and left the house to go on with your day.
And even if you do magically have the time to cook, going through agonizing hours of cutting, preheating the stove, making sure you measured everything properly— all on an empty stomach??
Yeah no. It was a fate you never want to go through… so you might as well let your boyfriend handle it!
And besides, watching Mydei cook was a treat in itself. The way he carried himself around the kitchen with silent confidence, the way his brows furrow in deep concentration when following recipes online, only for him to ditch the methodical way and resort to winging the measurements instead?
It was nothing short of mesmerizing.
The same can’t be said about your shared predicament though.
“Did you end up finding the onion powder?”
“No?” You say before coughing, accidently sniffing another mysterious spice that made your eyes water a bit. It’s garlic powder... probably.
It didn't matter what the spice was, all you knew was how it made you regret stepping foot in the pantry in the first place.
“How the hell can you find your way around this…” You pause, trying to find the appropriate word that best describes the state of your shared pantry. Tapping the unlabeled spice bottle out of mere spite. “Labyrinth?”
Mydei lets out a weary sigh, setting the knife down on the counter before walking towards the pantry, already bracing himself for whatever problem he’ll end up solving himself.
“First of all, you ripped off all the labels from the bottles, making it almost impossible to distinguish the mysterious spices from each other. And second of all, you didn’t even bother to—”
You pause the series of complaints the moment you feel his looming presence from behind, causing your eyes to widen a bit.
Oh.
Probably shouldn’t have said that.
He crosses his arms in front of his chest, staring at you with his typical resting bitch face. Utterly stoic and mildly bothered. “Hm? And what else?” He asks, raising a sharp brow at your comically wide eyes. “Go on,” He tilts his head, urging you to keep blabbering on for his own amusement. “I’m curious as to what else you have to say.”
“What?” You feign ignorance, looking at your boyfriend with a look that screamed of remorse. Teeny bit of it. “Oh nothing… I was uttering nonsense in the first place!” You try to save face, only for Mydei to shake his head, uncross his arms and take initiative.
Not without humbling you.
He scans the pantry with a concentration that leaves you a bit stunned. “It’s not a labyrinth if I’m able to navigate it perfectly fine.” He states plainly, acting like your perfectly reasonable complaints were nothing but a skill issue. “I’d say it’s fairly easy to navigate if you take the time to think with your brain instead of your stomach.”
“And what is that supposed to mean—”
Mydei ignores whatever weak retort leaves your lips, his gaze zeroing in on the very item that was the reason behind your minor spat in the first place. I don’t know how they managed to miss this.
He grabs the onion powder with the silent victory of a man who knows he won his case fair and square, making a show of popping the lid open, tilting the bottle in your direction. “This is what I mean.”
As soon as his eyes land on your properly, watching how your expression scrunched up in suspicion made Mydei want to roll his eyes. It’s so obvious.
He sighs deeply, sounding a bit exasperated at your clear denial of him being in the right. You won’t let up, won’t you? “You trust me with making your food but you won’t trust my intuition when it comes to finding the correct spices?”
“Precisely.” You scoff. “Who knows if you’re lying to me at this moment just to make a fool out of me?!”
“Hmph. How ironic. You know I have no time for such stupidity.”
Shaking his head, he hands you the onion powder. “Sniff it, I know you’re thinking it’s garlic powder instead of onion powder, but I’m sure you’ll realize the difference once you sniff—”
It didn’t take long for you to break free from your denial as soon as the pungent stench assaulted your nose hairs, causing your eye to twitch in retaliation.
Yup, it’s definitely onion powder. “…Oh. You weren’t kidding.”
Mydei rolls his eyes, taking the onion powder from your hands before closing the lid. “Obviously. I meant it when I said I don’t have time to indulge in inane behavior.”
“Come,” He places a gentle hand on your back, leading you away from the pantry and into the kitchen, his eyes still keeping its sharp quality. “The food won’t finish cooking itself.”
Even if your past behavior did irk Mydei a bit, it didn’t mean he won’t ditch the delicious meal he had been learning behind your back. Why throw all his hard work away because of a minor spat?
A funny one at that.
Why devoid himself of your radiant smile that grew with each bite you took? Why devoid himself the chance to savor your delicious reactions whenever he leans over the counter, wiping sauce from the corner of your lips with his thumb, leaving you a bit flustered yet content nonetheless?
He couldn’t bring himself to stop cooking for you, not when his cooking was more than enough to temper your hunger and leave you thoroughly satisfied.
To him? Your happiness is what made it all worth it.
