At last my snail ‘Life in the Slow Lane’ is on the streets of Brighton! It’s been a long journey from submitting my design, being selected, meeting my blank snail, drawing and painting the design on and then waiting for this weekend when the Snail Trail began!

The trail has been organised by The Martlets, a local hospice in Brighton & Hove. There are 50 snails on the trail, scattered across the city and there’s an app to help you find them all. More info here www.snailspacebrighton.co.uk

If you can make it down please do, it’s great family fun, kids love unlocking the snails and trying to collect them all. They are on the streets until Nov 18th, and on Dec 3 a huge auction will be held to raise funds for the hospice.

Giant snails everywhere!

Giant snails around Brighton and Hove popped up over the autumn – and they’ve now been sold.

Designed by a wide range of artists and sponsored by local businesses, the colourful snails were auctioned and sold for a total of £231,400 for Martlets Hospice.

You can see them on social media sites using #bemoresnail and you can buy mini snails and other merchandise from https://www.snailspacebrighton.co.uk/merchandise/. All proceeds go to the hospice.

The success of the snail event follows the outbreak of Snowdogs around the city in 2016. We helped buy a Snowdog at the time, to keep one available for the public to see and it’s homed at the Hanover Centre. You can find out more here: https://www.quickhr.biz/come-and-meet-your-snowdog/.

At the end of the summer term I spent several weeks in and out of various classrooms to paint the snail. Here I am at the school assembly to present the finished snail painted with the children of St Marks Primary and being auctioned in aid of @martletshospice.  the snails will be all over Brighton – ours will be in St George’s Church in Kemptown
