Mystery/Thriller Monday

Vernon and Penelope Moore are retired, and their son is in jail for beating his wife. The fact that this takes place in a small town makes everything in this mystery complicated.

Like the fact that when Vernon finds out that another local guy is beating on his son Caleb in jail. He goes to that guy’s father to see if he can stop his son from beating up Caleb. But, instead of working as he thinks it will, it starts another cascade of problems, questions, and violence. One that seems to encompass the whole town.

The characters were far from perfect, but, they did all seem real. And the stakes seemed intense. I definitely didn’t want to put down the book.
