Bagginsheild/dwarf-hobbit culture headcannon;
Dwarfs have many types of pet names in Khuzdul
Ex- Amrâlimê: my love, Laslel: rose of all roses
But they have a striking amount that specificly revolve around valuables and precious metals
Ex- Zirizkhîe: My gold one, Bunnel/Ghivashel: treasure of all treasures, Kidhuzel: gold of gold, Mesmel: jewel of all jewles
This is because of the nature of dwarvish courting, they're courtship gifts most often being finely crafted jewelery, swords, armor, ect. So there's a deep cultural association between lovers and valuables.
Hobbits, however, court with food. Pies, pastries, biscuits, warm breakfasts, and hardy dinners. I like to think they're pet names change accordingly.
Thorin (in deep rumbling Khuzdul): my love, my precious jewel, purest of all metals, gold of the deepest mines...
Bilbo: yes lemon danish? :) what's the bother strawberry scone?
