#39: A Killer in the Wings: A 1920s Mystery by Benedict Brown
My hands were shaking as I seized the pair of tweezers, carefully gripped hold of the cotton and attempted to thread it through a hole the size of a speck of dust. Admittedly, it took me ten or so attempts to achieve my task, and I had to get a bigger magnifying glass to see what I was doing. Oh, and I cut my finger on the hook at some point and ended up bleeding all over myself and having to stop to put a sticking plaster on the wound.

Three Sentence Review: The theatrical elements of this story were very entertaining, especially the meta commentary on the play-within-a-play(-within-a-book)! I did have a little trouble keeping all of the characters straight because there were so many names - actors, their roles, etc. But I absolutely loved Chrissy taking on the reveal of whodunnit all by himself!

#20: Blood on the Banisters: A 1920s Mystery by Benedict Brown
At the beginning of 1927, the winter seemed to last forever. It was almost June before the spring really made itself known to the world and, by that time, the arrangements for my brother's wedding were well underway.

Three Sentence Review: What a rollercoaster of emotions while solving this mystery! Everyone in the Fairfax family / friends was so weird and gave off such bad vibes throughout the story - which I suppose means that they were all very well-written as suspects. The plot twist at the end, though... I thought I saw it coming, but Benedict still managed to catch me off guard after all!

#1: What the Vicar Saw: A 1920s Mystery by Benedict Brown
Baron Stamford Fane had never been a popular man but, on the day of his funeral, the church in the village of Condicote was full to bursting. People were packed in, ten to a pew, and villagers lined up in the aisles to witness his last rites.
Rating: 5/5
Three Sentence Review: This story unfolded in such a different way than the previous Lord Edgington books, and I really enjoyed it! The inclusion of time jumps, a period-accurate trial, and a few plot twists that managed to catch me off guard made for a great read. And I am so proud of Chrissy for sticking to his convictions and even solving (most of) this one totally on his own!

#29: The Snows of Weston Moor: A 1920s Christmas Mystery by Benedict Brown
On the night of the big performance - with the crowd assembled in the ballroom, our staff dressed in their crimson robes, and the house decked out as though Queen Victoria was coming to stay - it dawned on me that I'd had far too much time on my hands.
Rating: 5/5
Three Sentence Review: I think this might be in my top 3 Lord Edgington books now! The setting was gorgeous, the characters were eclectic and intriguing, and I loved our master sleuths trying to go "undercover" while snowed in with all these strangers. Benedict Brown's Christmas stories are some of his best and you really get a sense of the amount of research he puts into making them historically accurate while also entertaining.
