WICKEDGOAL! News: La Liga Updates
Week 36 in La Liga...the end is nigh
Real Madrid 3 – 0 Sevilla
"We are the champions....we are the champions...no time for losers"
Less than a week after the disappointing loss to Bayern Munchën, Real Madrid have come round packing punches, asking for those names much later thanks. Having beaten FC Sevilla in a convincing game good enough for the masses, the Madridistas seem to be back on par with their winning streak. The football “twitterazzi” was abuzz with the blow-by-blow of the game.
Milestones have been marked with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 302nd goal with the league giants. Yes yes, Sergio “The Val Kilmer” Ramos was right up in the frontlines again…no penalties taken this time. And it would seem all is forgiven; after all, La Liga BBVA is coming to a close and Real Madrid looks set to rub it in Barcelona’s distraught and tired face and shame them to the top of the league. At 91 points...there is no question about the league winners.
Goal Scorers: RM Ronaldo (x1), Benzema (x2)
Rayo Vallecano 0 – 7 Barcelona
In Vallecas, Barcelona ran rampant all over Rayo Vallecano….the latter might as well have not pitched. Can someone say:'free football lessons'...precisely. No one wants to be at the receiving end of a Barcelona looking to prove something. By half-time Vallecano was down three goals to nil, at 47 minutes, Barca had scored again…Well, if that is not a chip on a shoulder needing a scratch, we don’t know what is.
Home fans had to watch every agonising minute as Barca sent in wave after wave of attack, getting all militarial about it. We’re reminded not to underestimate them, and, here’s to hoping no one else will make the mistake of overestimating them either.
By the 87th minute, Pedro bolted in and scored his second goal and the sixth of the match, 3 minutes later, Messi made it seven on the 90 minute mark, his second goal of the evening. The ole phoenix seems to have risen again...how boring. I don't know about you, but it was just getting interesting, a twist in the tale...it's back to the same old same old soapie now.
At least fans were given a taste of melodrama - the Thiago-Dance-Fiasco has been hilarious to watch with an official apology from Thiago, Danny Alves and Gaurdiola. Quick show of hands: who here thinks that the kids from Rayo Vallecano are sore losers without a backbone? Down 7 goals and what worries them is a dance? Guess it's just me then...moving on...
Goal Scorers: Messi (x2) Rober (penalty goal) Pedro (x2) Keita (x1) and Thiago (x1).
Atletico Madrid 2-2 Real Betis
Maybe getting rid of manager Quique Sanchez Flores was a bad move. Then again, not much can be done to change the erratic if not blizzard-like on the field strategy Atletico uses. Sometimes, one watches and thinks well, that’s the A team other times it’s not even the B team…some sort of Z team and mind you, the players haven’t changed. It’s probably a mental thing...or something in the water.
Atletico Madrid tends to focus, play wildly but focus until they score a goal, case in point, the game on the last night. Once Koke scored the goal, at 62 minutes…the deck of cards came tumbling down, knocking defenders down like a backhanded fly. They lasted a total of 13 minutes before Pozuelo of Betis “peed on their cornflakes”. Then, well, the floodgates were open and in less than 2 minutes another Betis goal slammed into the net.
At least Falcao was worth the ludicrous fee paid to sign him, his goal made it “even steven”.
Goal Scorers: ATM: Koke (x1), Falcao (x1) RB: Pozuelo (1x)
