Ren and Beni, oh man. That’s definitely an OTP of mine to treasure.
They’re already best friends in canon and they care a lot for each other. It’s precious how Ren would be there to try and quell Beni’s anger when things go wrong and Beni would do the same. Beni likes to nestle in Ren’s fur when they’re relaxing. He always asks how Ren is doing whenever Aoba visits Koujaku or something has happened.
Like they are just so connected to each other and it’s so important to me.
They’d have the most potential of happening in KouAo good end, because I’m sure that eventually Beni would come to mimic Koujaku’s actions and be really sweet to Ren. Koujaku brings a bouquet of flowers for Aoba? Beni flies over to Ren with a few daisies in his beak. Koujaku snuggles against Aoba? There’s Beni nestling into Ren’s fur. Koujaku kisses Aoba’s cheek? Beni gives a peck to Ren’s cheek.
And Ren would mimic Aoba in his own way. Nuzzling Beni with his nose, licking his tiny little cheek. He’d give him a greeting whenever he returns home. He would just be so domestic with Beni in his own Ren way. He tries to not fluster Beni, but sometimes it doesn’t work.
And if they had the ability to, oooh they could meet up in person in Rhyme and just be such cuties in there too. Beni would be huffy over how big Ren is though, because what’s up with that?

Who would be the big spoon?
Sometimes it’s Ren, but Beni likes to be the big spoon too if only to peck Ren on the cheek at times as well, so it’s equal among them~
Who would wake up first?
Ren is naturally a morning person, so it would be him.
Do they have nicknames for each other?
Ren calls Beni his ‘little sparrow’ and it flusters Beni a ton. Beni hasn’t thought of any for Ren just yet.
What happened when they met each other’s parents?
Neither Ren nor Beni have parents, so I’m not sure of that one ehehe.
How do they apologise after an argument?
It never happens often thankfully. They reach for each other’s hands and after a little while, they gently apologize to one another and share a chaste kiss.
What would they be like as parents?
I think they’d both be fine parents. Ren already shows that he’d be the caring and nurturing type, so their kids would call him ‘papa’ and Beni would be known as ‘daddy.’ Despite Beni’s hotheaded attitude, I think when it comes to it, he’d be a wonderful father to his children. Plus he’d teach them to kick butt if anyone’s ever mean to them, much to Ren’s concern.
Who is the better cook?
Ren. He learned from Tae, the master of delicious foods herself, so he’d cook some hella tasty meals.
Who is more romantic?
Beni definitely. Ren still has a lot to learn, while Beni has the charisma and romance. He’d sweep Ren off of his feet countless times when given the chance.
What sort of gifts do they get for each other?
They’d get matching couple necklaces for each other oh my gosh.
Who gets jealous easiest?
Beni. No one can just touch Ren or flirt however they please while he’s around.
Who gets more excited for events e.g.. Birthdays, Christmas?
They both get equally excited, though Ren is more subdued than Beni, who would grin and announce ‘Happy Birthday!’ or ‘Merry Christmas’ to Ren.
Who is the most adventurous?
Beni. He drags Ren along on escapades or suggests an idea for them to do while the pup goes along with it.
Who is the most protective?
Ren. Beni’s pretty protective himself, but nothing compared to Ren when the time comes. He’s intimidating and threatening as a wolf if anyone messes with Beni.
What would they have been like as childhood sweethearts?
I have the strongest headcanon of these two meeting on the playground or something as children while Ren was being bullied since he was smaller and quieter. Beni came to his rescue and eventually the two came to be friends. One time, he managed to coax a genuine smile (fangy teeth and all) from Ren and Beni knew that day that he wanted to marry this little boy. So sometimes Beni would hold Ren’s hand when they walked together, but he’d look away all discreetly while Ren looked at him in confusion. He went along with it though and squeezed Beni’s hand back. It stayed that way until he mustered the strength to give Ren a kiss on the cheek to which Ren happily smiled and gave him a kiss back.

Was tooling around with Humanized/Rhyme Beni after AUSA. Still kinda eh, but you can see I already had the main idea down: short, pissy, skinny little leather pants, and totally cribbing that truly excellent coat from early-design!Koujaku. It took a bit, but I finally settled on keeping the pompadour and making him a little bit round. He's less of a dorito boy and more of a marshmallow on two sticks.
I am not in any way an artist of action poses (see my incredible repertoire of Boys Facing Left), but I wanted to try. I originally thought of Beni with daggers or throwing needles, but I thought fans would remind more of wings and also be more on the samurai side of the Samurai-Ninja scale. I'd thought of it a week or two ago, but luckily at the con there were demos on martial weapons and tessen were included. Beni probably uses them in more bullshit videogame ways, like wind attacks and short-range teleportation too, but that's a little hard to show.
I decided to draw Beni being super cute with Ren while I waited for the train from NYC. At first I was just trying to do some of the poses they do in animal form, but a kiss kinda snuck it's way in there. Ren's poncho is so fun to draw, as are his ginormous yaoi paws.
