Photography
Photography is nothing but powerful. It’s visual, it’s inspiring, it’s nothing but proactive. It pushes people to work out of their comfort zone. It has people aspiring to be a better person. It makes people want to design their homes. It makes people want to travel. Photography is a big part of our world today, and it truly is one of the best ways to create fluid content. It’s always fun to look at.
I attended the Creative Sessions with VSCO event at work last month. What can I say, I was truly inspired with what Ben Heath brought to the table. I thought we were going to learn about photography, tips and tricks, basics, etc. We didn’t. It was nothing about composition, nothing about the perfect picture… It was more than that. We learned about the art of storytelling, learning how to capture an object in its element, in its moment, at the right time, in its perfect place. We learned to use the world around us, the big things, the small things. We learned to really listen and pay attention to our environment and incorporate our surroundings into our work. I learned to give value to trying, to experiment, and to go out and simply shoot. He told us to keep shooting, no matter what camera we have. I thought that was valuable. It doesn’t matter, just shoot .When I went up to talk to him, first off, I was pretty damn nervous, second, my friend Riva asked him about how he got started, how he networked, how he grew as a person. “Just always buy people coffee. That’s always a good place to start.” He did a lot of email, a lot of trial and error, but that’s what he had to go through in order to be where he is. Without struggle their is no progress. At first, Ben was a lawyer and then decided to pursue photography. I learned that your passions are as important as your main job, and that I should continue to put more work and effort into what I was made to do. Ben recommended a book to us, Never Eat Alone, by Keith Ferrazzi. This book inspired him to always talk to someone, to never be afraid to have a conversation, and that meeting people will lead to amazing success. I just ordered the book on Amazon and I’m excited for its delivery. It will be my first summer read of the year. YES. All in all, I was pretty stoked about the whole thing. I’m happy that I was able to attend and meet someone with such passion and enthusiasm about their craft. Ben is amazing and his words of wisdom and his work was in my mind during my whole shoot with Leah today. I’m so inspired. I want to learn more. I want to shoot more.
