disclaimer: not exactly bff to lovers but benny and the reader are best friends (with benny having a teeny tiny crush on you)! yay for wholesome friendship!
is me writing this request a method to manifest bennett while pulling for canadian aether at the end of this month? perhaps. mihoyo, give me bennett please. sincerely, a future bennett (+ kazuha) haver.
“i’ve only had bennett for a day and a half. but if anything happened to him, i would kill everyone in this room and kill myself.” — me, future bennett haver and current bennett havers/mains probably. brought to you by the office.
i don’t know about you guys, but bennett is one of the best boys in the game. ha, royce wishes to be half the best boy bennett is. beat that, royce. i mean... he’s adorable, loves adventuring, friends with pretty much everyone especially razor and fischl, made bouken da bouken iconic (if you play in japanese), and last but not least, his stroke of bad luck which is his charm.
please cut him slack; his bad luck is something that is beyond his control. he doesn’t mean to summon rain while venturing out to the dandelion fields, and for the some odd reason, the sun would come out the moment he leaves (source: bennett’s hangout event). we all know he’s trying his best, and we love him for that.
however, that may not be the case when it comes to you, another fellow adventurer of the guild he is best friends with. ever since that one commission he did with you a few weeks back, poof!
you just... disappeared. strangely enough, katheryne (mondstadt) has no idea where you went. this leads to bennett thinking that you don’t like him anymore, no thanks to his bad luck. nah, fuck him. he doesn’t deserve rights. don’t listen to him, benny.
it’s a shame to think that the assemblance of his adventure team was going so well, only for it to fall apart in the end. maybe royce was right, everything goes wrong when he’s around. that has been proven by the sudden occurrence of rain and thunderstorms at the start of the bridge to mondstadt, driving lynn and the guards past the city gates for shelter.
“benny?” the boy is startled to see you holding an umbrella over your head in one hand and a bag of goods in the other. “why are you still standing here for? you’re gonna get a cold and get electrocuted.”
instead of showing his appreciation to your concerns, he spits out one thing that has been on his mind the day you presumably left the team for good. “what are you doing here? i thought you didn’t—”
“— like me?” you laugh at the absurdity. “don’t be silly, i’m not royce or any of those uncool guys you adventured with before. plus, i’m your best friend. i like you, bad luck and all. why would i leave?”
he sighs in relief. the idea of his adventure dream team is still alive after all. but the question is, where have you been this entire time?
“i didn’t mean to scare you, benny,” you say as you shove your hand into your bag. “i actually told katheryne not to tell you my whereabouts so i can surprise you with this!”
“an umbrella?” he stares at the rolled up object hanging on your finger.
“bought it from liyue. you like?” you grin at him, to which he reciprocrates to imply that he very much appreciates your gift. “since most of the time it’s raining whenever we do our commissions, why not have umbrellas in handy? that way we can protect ourselves from getting sick, and also kick asses in style. neat, huh?”
ah, man. no wonder why he likes you a lot. despite the bad luck that may come your way, whether it be the pouring rain or the thunderstorms that unfortunately shocked him on the way to the city gates, you like him for just being him. in general, you make his days so much better
congratulations on 1000 followers!! i love reading your work so much ^^ for the event, may i request a comfort fluff fic with bennett and the prompt “Can I please... hug you?” i just wanna give this sweet boy a hug he deserves it TT _ TT thank you and have a great day/night!

Hello everyone! Thank you all for 1000 followers I am just over the moon with emotions right now. I’m kinda ast
Pronouns for reader: gender neutral/ not mentioned
A/n: hello! Thank you for participating in the event and sorry I got to this a bit later than I would’ve like to :’). But I’m here now! I’ve never actually gotten a request for bennett, hug I have written for him once, so this is pretty new to me! I love bennett so much and with his hangout event... lowkey got mad at the one guy (I can’t temper his name and I don’t care he was mean >:( ) so... that was interesting. But continuing on, I hope you enjoy cause I really liked writing for this, and have an amazing day/afternoon/night!
“Bennett!” You said rushing to the gates of mondstadt when you saw your white haired friend. He came back from a commission bruised, and dirty as usual, but his usual happy and upbeat attitude seemed to be gone. Did something happen? Something always happened.
The boy looked up and his eyes filled with joy, yet sadness when he saw you. He was happy to see you of course, but he couldn’t help but feel as though he was disappointing you by being unlucky. He wished that for once he could find some sort of amazing treasure on his adventures and make you proud. But that never happened.
Once you were right I front of him you spoke, “hey you ok? You look like you fought a mitachurl?!” He placed his hand in the back of his head, and looked away saying, “well...” your face turned from one of concern to one shock “you didn’t!” You yelled “bennett! I thought I told you not to do reckless things like that! You could get seriously hurt!” Bennett sighed in defeat.
“I know, I know... and I’m sorry.” He said clearly telling the truth. He looked upset, and you couldn’t help but feel some empathy for him. You sighed and were about to speak until he said, “can I... please hug you.” It was the first time in your whole conversation that he looked you in the eyes, and you could see that his eyes were glossy, and hopeful. You embraced him without saying a word. He sighed in adoration and pressed his cheek against your head. “I’m sorry I made you worried.” He said though it was slightly mumbled. “It’s ok. All that matters now is that you’re safe.”
this hurt back when i first wrote this :( apparently i'm supposed to give an apology buttt... i refuse <3
you were five when you met him. you had started to be bullied by a couple of kids your age. they began picking on you after you had accidently broken one of their items. you apologized, of course, but five year olds are kind of mean.
you took all of their insults. it was your fault, after all. you probably should have been more careful. one of the kids reached their hand up to hit you, and you flinched. suddenly, someone ran in front of you, getting hit in the process.
"hey, what are you doing here?!" the bully said, placing his fist at his side. the person who came to protect you crossed his arms. "i'm here to protect them! you shouldn't hit them, they probably didn't do anything wrong!"
the bully glared at the boy. he opened his mouth to yell at the boy, only to close it when another person in the group tugged on his sleeve. "wait... that boy is friends with all of the grown up's in the adventurers guild, he might tell on us..." the rest of the kids in the background nodded in agreement, starting to run away.
the bully took one more look at you and the boy before running away as well, leaving the two of you alone. you stayed silent for a bit before bursting out in tears. the whole time they were bullying you, you were holding in your tears. just so they wouldn't bully you more.
the boy gasped and turned around, quickly wrapping his small arms around you. "wait no, don't cry! it's okay!" he said, gently patting your head. he stayed with you until you calmed down, which you were very grateful for.
he let go of you after a few minutes to stand in front of you. "are you feeling better?" he asked, holding your hand. you nodded, using your other hand to wipe the tears off your face.
"great! just so you know, my name is bennett, but you can just call me benny! let's be friends!" your eyes widened in shock. someone wanted to be friends with you? he lifted you up as you started to take in his appearance.
he was a lovely thing with light grey, almost white hair and gorgeous bright green eyes that glittered in the light. you decided that from then on out, his eyes would be the thing you liked the most about him.
"i'm (y/n)..." you watched as bennett's face lit up. "that's a cool name!" he said, starting to lead you somewhere.
"where are we going?" you asked, noticing that you seemed to be heading towards mondstadt's plaza. "i'm taking you to get ice cream! or something else if you don't like that." he looked back at you with a big smile, causing you to smile back. he seemed nice. maybe you really would be friends with him...
-
you were eight when bennett began to take a big interest in adventuring. it wasn't very surprising though, especially considering that he had grown up around and was raised by many adventurers.
it was only natural that he would want to follow in their footsteps. you wanted to go adventuring with him as well, but you knew it was dangerous because of bennett's bad luck, your ages, and the fact that neither of you had a vision.
"benny, this is kind of dangerous..." you said, avoiding the edge of the water. the two of you had wandered off towards a nearby lake, and you were feeling a bit uneasy since it was rather deep.
"it'll be okay, (y/n)!" bennett said, running up from behind you. "i'll always protect you!" you nodded and grabbed his hand, squeezing it gently. the two of you explored a bit more, coming across what seemed to be an empty hilichurl camp.
"the adventurers guild must have just cleared this one out." bennett got closer to the camp, noticing that the camp fire seemed to be recently put out. "we should probably still be-"
"yah!"
you turned around and gasped as a hilichurl with a flaming bat came rushing towards you. you immediately braced for impact, only to feel yourself get dragged to the side. "(y/n), come on!" you let bennett lead you away from the hilichurl, adrenaline rushing through both of your bodies.
you only stopped after a few minutes, not being able to run any longer. bennett let go of your hand and fell to his hands and knees, panting heavily as he clutched his chest. you collapsed next to him, struggling to catch your breath.
the two of you sat in silence until you calmed down. you sat up, gasping when you saw the faint bruise on bennett's shoulder.
"bennett, your arm!" you rushed over to him, gently brushing your fingers against his steadily bruising skin. he flinched, causing you to withdraw your hand. "it'll be fine!" he said, smiling.
you looked down, feeling a bit bad for letting him get hurt. "i'm sorry, i should have been more careful." bennett shook his head, helping you up.
"it's okay... like i said earlier, i will always protect you!"

you were ten when benny's adventure team was founded. you were planning on joining after it was made, but a few other older men got in before you. and the limit to an adventure team was four.
of course, you were a bit bummed out. you were hoping to show bennett your combat skills with your new bow, but now you couldn't really do it since he was busy being the leader of his team. or, kind of leader since he was still young.
'oh well.' you thought, 'more time for practicing.' you ventured out to a quiet little place near mondstadt, searching for a spot that you normally used for your archery practice. once you made it there, you started setting up, getting ready to practice once more.
you loaded up your bow, taking in a deep breath. you sat still for a few seconds before firing the arrow, which landed right in the middle of the tree.
"w-woah! that was so cool!" you whipped around to see bennett standing behind a tree. he had a look of surprise on his face, probably because he had just seen you use a bow for the first time. "oh, bennett! this was supposed to be a surprise..." you said, resting the bow against a tree.
he emerged from behind the tree, tilting his head to the side. "a surprise? why?" you shrugged, fixing the fabric of your shirt. "i wanted to join your adventure team so i could show off my bow skills, but it's already full." you pouted, crossing your arms.
bennett laughed. "it's okay! maybe one day they'll let us add an extra member to our adventure teams! maybe you'll be a co-leader!" the two of you continued to talk about the future of benny's adventure team well into the day and until the sun set.
-
you were thirteen when you rushed into the cathedral after finding out that bennett had almost bled to death. the deaconess, barbara, quickly escorted you to where bennett's room was. after talking with you for a few seconds, she whispered a quick prayer before leaving.
you sat in a chair that was next to bennett's bed. he was pale, and he breathing was a bit irregular. but the one thing that caught your attention was the giant scar on his arm. it was a tad bit darker than his skin tone, and it made a small 'X' shape.
"oh, bennett..." you said, grabbing his hand. after a few seconds, you felt someone squeeze your hand back. you gasped and looked down to see bennett staring at you with a small smile on his face.
"b-bennett!" you cried, feeling tears welling up in your eyes.
"hey, don't cry..." he said, slowly rubbing his thumb against the back of your hand. you hiccupped a bit, trying to hold in your tears. "look what i got...!" he reached under his blanket and into his pocket, pulling out a glowing red object.
a pyro vision.
you gasped, entranced by the bright red glow of the vision. it emitted a soft heat, making your face feel warmer than normal. "i got a really bad injury while i was out adventuring. i was so sure that i was done for..."
you looked at him with concern. that explained the giant scar on his arm. "you mean the one on your arm...? how did it get healed so fast?" bennett nodded at your first question before placing his hand back in yours.
"i'm guessing that my wound got cauterized or something..." he glanced at his arm, sighing softly. the day most likely took a lot out of him. which wasn't surprising, he almost died. "but i woke up with this vision next to me."
he continued to explain what happened for the next few minutes as you sat in silence. after he was done, you spoke up again. "please be more careful next time, benny... i don't..." you gulped, wiping your eyes with the bottom of your hand. "i don't want you to get hurt like this again..."
-
a few months later, everyone on benny's adventure team quit. but you only found out after he had told you himself, and after he had locked himself in his home for longer than normal.
it went like this. you had noticed that bennett had been spending less and less time outside. he could have been tired, but this didn't seem like something he'd do. you went to his house, looking around for the spare key that he kept hidden just for you. after you found the key, you unlocked the door and went inside, calling out his name.
"benny? bennett, where are you?" you walked around his house for a bit before stopping at his room door, gently knocking on it as to not startle him. your heart broke at what you heard next.
"c-come in..." you opened the door to see bennett curled up under a bunch of blankets. he was sniffling and hiccupping softly, almost as if he had been crying for a while. "oh, bennett, what happened?" you rushed over to him, taking off your shoes and climbing into the bed with him.
he wrapped his arms around you, burying his cheek into your chest as he tried to speak. "every... everyone in my adventurers team left..." he grabbed on to the fabric of your shirt, starting to play around with any excess strings.
"i-i originally thought that they were just taking a break, because that's what katheryne told me, but..." more tears started running down his cheeks, soaking your shirt. "i know she's lying to me...!"
you gasped softly and looked down at bennett. his normally bright green eyes were now dull. "so many things happened to them in the past few days because of my bad luck, a-and all of the sudden they leave...!" his voice was reduced to a whisper as he started sobbing, fully burying his face in your chest.
you placed your hand on the back of his head, slowly running your fingers through his hair. after a few minutes, you decided that it was okay to speak up since bennett had stopped crying.
"you know what? i'll join your team." bennett looked up at you through his eyelashes. "you shouldn't... it's bad luck, and i don't want you to get hurt. my luck will probably spread to you..."
you let out a small laugh, trailing your hand from his head to his cheek. "that'll never happen, benny. do you know why...?" bennett's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as you gently stroked his cheek with your thumb.
"it's because i feel like the luckiest person in the world when i'm with you..."
-
you were sixteen when you took your final breath.
you and bennett were out doing a late night emergency commission. two ruin guards had been spotted nearby, and you and bennett were the only ones willing to help.
"two ruin guards..." you said out loud, placing your finger on your chin. "they'll be kind of hard to beat... luckily there's two of us!" bennett laughed and turned to smile at you.
"yeah, yeah! we'll just have to cover each other's backs, and you have your bow, so you'll easily be able to paralyze them!" you nodded, looking around for any signs of the ruin guards. "right! just as long as i get the timing right!"
you noticed a couple of giant footprints in the ground leading to an open area. bennett seemed to notice it as well, and you started carefully walking to that direction. suddenly, a mechanical whirr sounded from behind you.
"there they are..." bennett whispered, turning around before glancing at you. "ready?"
you nodded. "ready."
the battle was harder than you thought. the ruin guards kept jumping in every direction, and spinning to throw you off track. a few hilichurls also joined in on the fight. but luckily you managed to defeat your ruin guard and hilichurls in a matter of minutes.
bennett however, wasn't so lucky. the ruin guard was rather beaten, but since he only had a sword, he wasn't able to hit the weak spot in order to finish it off in one go. you gasped as everything began to move in slow motion.
the ruin guard turned around, forming missiles from it's back. it began to charge them up, and bennett was it's target. you quickly glanced at him, noticing that he wasn't able to move since he had run out of stamina. there was only one option. you ran in the direction of of your friend, charging up an arrow in the process.
you fired the arrow, and it hit right in it's weak spot, causing it to break down and die. but there was still another problem. the missiles. you had fired your arrow right when the ruin guard fired the missiles, which meant that they were already flying towards bennett when it died.
you dropped your bow and pushed bennett out of the way, letting all of the missiles hit you. he watched in horror as your body flew backwards, landing on the ground with a loud thump.
"(y-y/n)!!" bennett rushed over to your limp body, your blood quickly starting to stain his hands. "no no no! please! why would you do that?!" his hands shook as he tried to lift you up, only to stop when he felt your hand grasp his arm.
"d-don't cry... you're okay..." you smiled softly at him, trying not to show pain on your face. bennett started sobbing as he fell to his knees, cradling your dying body in his arms. you rested your head on his chest, letting your eyes wander around your surroundings. "you're warm..."
you took in a deep breath, whimpering loudly. the missiles impact with your body probably caused you to break a few of your ribs. you could barely breathe, and everything hurt so, so much... bennett probably knew this as well.
"l-look at me..." you weakly reached up to cup his cheek, making him look down at you. he leaned into your touch, making you smile. "can i tell you something...?" he nodded, trying to stop crying so he could listen to you. it wasn't working...
he watched as your eyes wandered over his face before finally settling on his eyes. "bennett, your eyes are so pretty..." you said, smiling softly. he nodded once more, probably not trusting his voice. "y'know, when we were younger, the first thing i truly noticed were your eyes... they're so pretty, and they suit you so well..."
you coughed slightly, feeling yourself get weaker with every passing second. you could also barely feel bennett's tears drop down on your cheeks. speaking of barely feeling anything, you felt your body start to go numb. "i told myself that your eyes would be my favorite thing about you, and they still are to this day..."
you felt your eyes close for a few seconds before opening again, focusing on his face. the starry night sky and moon cast a white halo around his body, making him look like an angel. you smiled. "you look so pretty tonight, bennett..."
bennett tearfully smiled at you, trying to give you something nice to look at before you eventually passed on. "i-i love you... so, so much...!"
he shook as you began to rub his cheek with your thumb, only to stop a few seconds later as your hand went limp. "i love you too, benny... please stay safe... for me..." h eyes widened as your hand fell from his cheek and into your lap. he held his breath, hoping that you would start speaking again.
you didn't. you were dead.
bennett placed his hand on the back of your head and pulled you against his chest as he screamed into the night sky, empty childhood promises ringing through his head.
who was he kidding.
"i will always protect you." was nothing but a naïve wish. a promise that would never be fulfilled.
