The only failure is not to try.
Charlotte, meet Bennett Orion “Bowie” Washington, a 25 year old resident. Hailing from Hollywood, California, he’s been living in the neighborhood of NODA for a year. He’s been told he looks like the twin of Noah Centineo, but he disagrees.
GET TO KNOW THEM --
x He’s a retired actor, who is currently working on his PH.D in Special Education at UNC Charlotte. x Bowie grew up acting on a drama series called “Death After Life” where he played a grim reaper from the ages of 8 to 16. While he loved being on a show that’s still culturally significant, he also regrets being on it. x Bowie’s costar (and eventual spouse) also went by the nickname Benny, which led to a lot of confusion. To make things easier, he started using Bowie Washington as his stage name. Now that he’s no longer acting, he tried to transition back to using Bennett but now his real name sounds weird to him. x He can be found on all social media accounts by the handle @BowieWashington. x People often describe him as creative, dedicated, persuasive but also unorganized, forgetful and rude. x When he’s not at work or with friends, he likes to paint and hike. x His favorite person is his girlfriend, Avery’s daughter, or as he likes to call her his little buddy and pint-sized partner-in-crime, Olivia.
TO THE GRAVE --
Even though his manager told the press that Bowie quit acting because he wanted to pursue his education and a normal life, it was actually because of his costar, Benny. The other man was 10 years Bowie’s senior and used the power he had over Bowie to force him into a sexual relationship when he was 14 years old. At 16, Benny convinced Bowie’s parents to allow them to get married. Critics believe that their marriage is the reason the show ended so abruptly. After the show ended, Benny made it a point ensure no one in Hollywood would hire Bowie. He thought if Bowie couldn’t get work, then Benny could keep him under his thumb forever. After Bowie turned 18, he hired a lawyer to figure out how to get out of his marriage and away from Benny. It took 2 years and the threat to go to the press about how young Bowie really was when their relationship started to get the older man to concede. He had to legally sign away his residuals for “Death After Life”, and stipulate that he would never act on screen or film in order to get the divorce and away from Benny. While it was worth it, he’d rather people think he was young and dumb and randomly married his costar at 16, then the truth.
