BENNI VALSSON @bennivalsson @eyesonmainstreetinc Eyes on Main Street Residency « I spent three weeks in Wilson N.C. last spring. I had brought my Linhof 4/5 and some B&W film. I walked the streets, spent time in front of restaurants, bars, gas stations and hung around campus. Stopped people, asked them if I could make their portrait & if they were ok shooting two sheet films. » 1 - I’d seen Tylynn a few times on the streets of Wilson but never got the opportunity to properly approach him. That Sunday I crossed him next to the Casitas Brewing Company and Tylynn said he was ok for a portrait. Afterwards when I asked him for his phone number he said he wanted no digital photo, he wanted a proper print. I was surprised and happy to hear that but unfortunately I haven’t been able to reach him, neither from here in europe nor when back in the states. But a print is ready. 2 - I met Ryan and his friend Caleb on Nash street in Wilson late one Saturday afternoon. I made their portraits and we said goodbye. A Few months later I came back to Wilson and just as I stepped out of my cab the first person I saw was Ryan, pretty much on the same spot as where I made his portrait. 3 - Maria introduced me to Willow on my first night in Wilson. I knew right away that I would love to make Willow’s portrait. I called later in the week and asked Willow if that would be possible, which it was.
