☆ Bickering and Baking — Banrey and Gordon x Reader Fic ☆
Genre: Fluff, canon typical chaotic comedy || they/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
A/N: Yeah I didn't label it as crack but the series these two comes from is very chaotic and all over the place so I tried to incorporate it the best I could-

You'd managed to find a kitchen in the Black Mesa laboratory, the Science Team was moving about around the room while trying to pass the time. Bubby was lighting something on fire with Dr. Coomer in the back, Tommy watching them nervously while you worked at a different part of the counters. Benrey was cooking beside you, and Gordon was sitting at the only table in the room. He was beyond exhausted, face planting on the table as he listened to the fire finally be extinguished.
You looked over, trying to see what Benrey was making. There was a pack of batteries, three cracked eggs, and some mysterious growing green liquid. Benrey was sprinkling a whole lot of black pepper on top, and you gave him a polite pat on the back "Uh- good job! It's.. coming together pretty well". "Yeah, I'm gonna eat it and grow twice as strong" Benrey said, his usual monotone way of speaking unfaltering, even as he mixed together ingredients with some odd sparks coming from it.
"What is he- lemme see" Gordon spoke up, standing from the table and walking over to where you two stood. He pushed Benrey to the side, seeing the messy raw mixture "Ew!?- you're gonna give us some mutated infection!". "Chill out, man, it's just a snack" Benrey huffed, nudging back to add a whole bottle of mustard into it. Gordon reeled back with a gag, hiding behind you and grabbing your shoulders "Please tell me you know how to make something I can stomach..."
"Depends, are you a fan of fresh bread?" You asked. Gordon groaned, resting his head against yours "I'll take anything at this point, as long as it's not what he's serving". "Well I wasn't going to share with you anyways" Benrey responded, shifting his bowl away from you two with an annoyed huff. "Good, I didn't want any, I don't think anyone should" Gordon replied in a mutter. You leaned into him, trying to show some affection while you were kneading the dough.
"Hey, tell him my food's good" Benrey said to you. You chuckled a little "It is good, in a way that only you can make. It can be your own Benrey meal". "Yeah, see? Just for me" Benrey replied. Gordon gave him an exhausted glare, wrapping his arms around you. Benrey kept up his odd cooking habits, before seeing the two of you "Hey, how come you get to lean like that? You're crowding the kitchen with all your.. doing nothing-ness"
"At least I'm not making a toxic waste hazard" Gordon responded. Benrey put his bowl down, quickly moving beside you two. Gordon was about to protest, but Benrey latched onto your side. He tried to somewhat bump Gordon out of the way, but you put your hands up to signify a pause. "Guys, come on, I'm cooking" you said. The two finally cut it out, simply content to just holding you as you worked, though Gordon gave a tired groan to convey some of his stress.
Benrey leaned his head on Gordon while he was at it, sighing as he felt the warmth of you both. You finished kneading, washing your hands before turning to hug the two in return "There we go, much better! There wasn't much materials to work with, but it'll be something to snack on if needed". "I'm surprised anyone in Black Mesa even has a stomach at this point" Gordon replied. "Speak for yourself" Benrey responded. Gordon gave him a very confused glance before leaning on you more for comfort.
Benrey shifted positions to nuzzle his face to yours "How long does it take?". "A while, especially depending on how good the ovens actually are" you answered. "Just turn up the heat or use the patented Black Mesa flamethrower" Benrey said, and Gordon shook his head "Don't- don't listen to anything he says". "Don't worry, loves, I've got it all figured out" you reassured, giving them each a cheek kiss. An explosion sounded from behind, Gordon whirling around to see what it was while clutching you tighter.
"...We should stop them from burning this place down so we can actually have a kitchen to cook in" he said, giving you a forehead kiss before pulling away to try and intervene between the mad scientists. You nodded, looking down to the guard still leaning on your chest "You wanna help?". "Nah, he's got it" Benrey replied dismissively "I'll just stay here". "If you say so" you chuckled, petting his back as the familiar sounds of not-so-distant chaos filled the room

-so when you and Benrey start dating he’s pretty off put
-he expressed his concern to you but he never even brings up breaking up with Benrey bcc it’s your life and obviously Benrey makes you happy
-even if they’re very very weird
-Coomer and Bubby knew from the beginning that Benrey liked you—he didn’t tell them—they just knew
-they just watched it happen and said not too subtle things
-“oh young love, don’t you remember those times, Bubby?” “I can’t even remember what I ate last night.”
-Tommy was very similar
-“oh look at that, Benrey’s sweet voice is red and pink around you! Red to pink means ‘I think you’re pretty neat!’ :DD”
-even Sunkist knew what was up
-before you got together he’d catch you as you walked into black mesa and say “I don’t think you uhhhh now where you’re going there, pal.” And he’d walk you around black mesa, purposely misleading you so they got to spend more time with you
-when you do get together it’s probably a very awkward and confusing confession
-Benrey’s like “so uh…I need a player two”
-“Benrey, I already told you I have an x box…”
-eventually you two get there though
-Benrey constantly uses sweet voice around/on you (if you’re ok with it, obviously)
-it’s xer love language
-when you first see him in a form that’s not his human-ish one you’re obviously alarmed but after the initial shock you’re very curious
-you are a scientist after all
-it actually makes xem feel really good about themselves
-it is startling to wake up in the middle of the night and see some humanoid figure in the top corner of your room with 30 fluorescent eyes all staring at you

gordon isn’t super affectionate, but benrey is! benrey is very lowkey about it though.
neither of them are too into pda or anything like that, but they do hold your hands! they sort of just picked a side and stuck to it, you in the middle
it’s just like that during cuddle sessions too, one will be behind you and one in front, with you on your side
if benrey is facing you, he likes to give you soft kisses on your face before resting his forehead against yours while gordon holds onto you from behind, a gentle hand playing with your hair
if gordon is facing you, he likes to just hold you very close, pressing kisses against your forehead and very hesitant to let you go, while benrey is behind you, whispering nice things into your ear
when the three of you go out to a movie, or park, or anything you must be in the middle, it’s just a thing for them
the two of them are very protective over you, especially gordon. he doesn’t want you to be taken from him or vice versa, they both want you safe and cared for
so communication is very important to them. if you’re uncomfortable with something and you tell them, i swear to you it will never happen again
when you’re lounging about at home, benrey will often have you sit in his lap, gordon holding one of your hands, just to let you know he’s there, rubbing shapes into your hand and smiling
benrey is very soft when he kisses you despite his harsh nature. you’re probably the one person he’s 100% gentle towards other than people like tommy. he’ll simply brush against your lips and tell you he loves you, a lazy smile on his face, cheeks just dusted with red
gordon is somewhat needy when it comes to kisses. he’s afraid of having you being taken from him or you leaving, he has major separation anxiety. he’ll give you two, three, four kisses in a row before he’s satisfied and moves on with his day, smiling as he does

We All have Rough Days
The cotton on your shirt felt like sandpaper; too stiff and too rough to be comfortable. You swallowed and pulled at the collar.
Today just sucked a little more than usual. Nothing was particularly wrong but it’s vibes just weren’t right from the second you woke up next to your partner.
Benrey could tell something was wrong but xe didn’t know how to approach the situation so he ended up giving you some space, not wanting to crowd you. It wasn’t sure what you wanted them to do and he was worried about messing up and making it worse.
About midday he actually tried talking to you.
You were sitting at the small kitchen table with your head laying on the smooth wood top.
“You uhhhhh—you don’t look too swag there player 2.” They said as gently as they could manage.
You let out a pained noise in response and you hoped xe would understand. Words weren’t exactly coming to you right now.
“Would you uh—would you mind me smoochin you?” Benrey asked, looking uncertain.
You lifted your head up from the cool surface of the table. He noticed your droopy eyes. It looked like being cognizant was a chore. You wanted to say yes, desperately so, but the idea of the texture of their lips on yours made you cringe.
You shook your head sadly. You really wished you could kiss him. Benrey seemed to understand though and relaxed his uncertain posture.
“Yeah that’s alright, player 2.” He smiled comfortingly, flashing his pointy yellow teeth.
You sighed and flopped your head back onto the table.
“I love you, Benrey…” You mumbled.
Benrey nodded in affirmation before realizing you couldn’t see xem.
“I love you too.” They said back.
You smiled contentedly, you were lucky to have such an understanding partner.
okay, yeah, he has no fucking idea what’s happening
“why’re you leaking from your face? you’re so hot, it’s because of me isn’t it.” stupid things like that leave his mouth following a smirk
he can’t help but be stupid, as you said he doesn’t have experience being sick or even seeing it firsthand so he’s convinced you’re dying
you ask him for chicken soup and he leaves, coming back an hour later in a hurry, face flushed, a frozen chicken in one hand and tomato soup in the other. “you said chicken and soup, right”
he argues with you on whether or not to take you to the hospital, especially if you’re throwing up, he’s so confused and thinks your internal organs are next to come out
he’s pacing the room and panicking and asking you over and over again what you need or what he can do and all you have to do to shut him up is reach your arms out and he stops in his tracks
he understands immediately and while you might be worried he’ll get sick as well he doesn’t mind a bit and wants to give you as much comfort as possible
he grabs an ice pack wrapped in a towel and places it on your forehead before snuggling up to your side. he is very cold, constantly, so discomfort isn’t a thing here
he cares about you so much and tries his best to keep you in good health, despite how he acts. he seems careless and nonchalant, but when he thinks you’re in immediate danger he panicks
needless to say, the next time you fall under the weather, he is there and absolutely prepared. he learns from the experience and checks in with you more often afterwards

OH YEAH, teasing is very very expected from him, he will make little remarks like “man, y/n you’re looking pretty red.” while standing like two inches away from your face
he’s very flirtatious, but among everything else he’s confused about it. why would someone as remarkable as you be into a boy like him? he thinks you deserve much better than what he has to offer
he’ll probably begin walking closer to you, until you two are lightly brushing your hands together, but he doesn’t move or push away like he might with others
the others can tell he’s into you too, just by how he’s acting around you. it’s not often he catches feelings for someone, but when he finds out they like him back it’s practically a dream come true, especially if it’s you
he would tease you mercilessly, calling you affectionate nicknames like sweetheart, just out of the blue to see your reaction
gordon and tommy don’t hear the end of it, he bottles his feelings until people closest to him are around to listen (unless of course it’s you)
he obviously asks you out, but not in a normal way, he doesn’t want to make things awkward in the off chance you don’t like him in that way and however he found out was just a fake
he simply asks you to dinner or frozen yogurt, without mentioning the date aspect. when you do show up, his hand is out and ready for you to hold, a smile on his face as he waits for your acceptance
you’ll probably have to ask him if that was a date-date and more than friendly, because he’s somewhat oblivious to what others can or can’t pick up
he’s very intelligent yet a little stupid socially. he definitely gives you a kiss on your cheek as you part ways, saying you should join him again very soon
he’s very excited, much like a little boy on christmas day, he’s bouncy the day after, not a single snarky remark leaving his mouth, much to everyone’s surprise

he is blissfully unaware of your past life, starved of touch or attention.. at least, until you tell him
expect the little things like laying his head in your lap or playing with your hair absentmindedly to occur way more often!
he’s extremely observant, much more than he lets on. if you show even the slightest anxious signal of wanting attention, he’s already all over you
he likes to give your face tiny pecks all over, just to be sure he got every inch, and he likes to pretend like he knows how to braid hair just so he can do yours, and if it’s short he just ruffles it around a little because he likes the texture
he likes to relax with you a lot too, just laying in bed with you on his chest, his arm around you, the other lazily holding his phone and scrolling through whatever
he’ll give you pets too, he likes it so he assumes you do too since it’s such a warm feeling when you’re being pet by someone you love
sometimes, very little he does this, but sometimes he likes to whisper compliments in your ear too while you’re snuggling-just how adorable he finds you and how lucky he thinks he is.. no, knows he is.

benrey is definitely not a morning person, so this could go one of two ways
if you are a morning person and you start to leave, he will moan in complaint, wrapping his arms around your waist and mumbling something along the lines of “come back” or “not yet”, trying to convince you to come back to him
he simply doesn’t want you to leave since you are his source of warmth, whether it’s external or internal, his heart is always warm when you touch.
if you aren’t a morning person, well.. good news, he isn’t either! you two will spend the morning in bed, and regardless of who woke up first he will be wrapped around you like a koala, it’s just his go-to whether he’s conscious or not
on days you two just want to relax, even if you both had just woken up, you’re snuggled together in the safety of the comforter, one hand around you and the other entangled in your hair, a soft smile on his face
he likes to face you while you sleep, so he knows you’ll be the very first thing he sees in the morning, regardless of if you turn around or not-you are in his sights and he is happy to see you there
he’s not a very good cook, but he knows how to make simple things like pancakes or scrambled eggs.. foods that don’t require too much effort, and also are pretty much foolproof
he likes to make the two of you breakfast whenever you decide to get up (which honestly can range to around an hour or two unless you have to-he’s stubborn)
and you just.. sit at the little dining table in your home, enjoying the way the sun feels on its way through the blinds to your skin, and how warm your hearts are just being in each other’s presence
most of the time it’s quiet, but he asks you how you sleep or if you had any dreams.. he has pretty vivid dreams nightly, and they always involve you somehow-they’re also quite bizarre, but soft all the same
