This my first project for Applied Visual Communications. The title of our first project is called MegaZine. The objective of this project is to create 4 Zines in the style of a creative or company of our choice. The content of the zine is also up to the student, tackling any topic of our choosing.
For my artist, I chose to do Canadian Western artist Bernie Brown. Bernie Brown is a pencil artist living in Okotoks Alberta. He is well known for his depictions of ranches, farmers, horses, cattle, border collies and everything in between. He also has a few series on hockey and grain elevators. I chose him because my mom and grandma both collect his work so he has been in my life for along time. I also thought it would be challenging to get back in to pencil drawing because I am really rusty seeing as I haven’t done it in a while.
I chose the topic of my family and ranching. My great grandfather passed away in may and I wanted to learn a little more about where I come from. My dream is to take over the farm and begin to run cattle again in his honor. I love ranching and the western life style and I am hoping with this project I can find myself and learn more about the people who make me who I am.
