berniewong replied to your post: so what are y’all getting me for my birthday on...
Happy Birthday early, just in case I miss it Friday! I wish I could mail you cake!
Um. I think you can mail me cake :)
Tumblr meet up!
I’m so happy @unfriendlypedestrian and I got to meet @womaninterrupted and her lovely family, @berniewong and his friends Jean and @eggrollstan
I reblogged Cat’s post about the food earlier. It was all so good. I’m still stuffed. We all tried a little bit of everything. I picked the Mentaiko to try and share which Stan suggested.
The plaza where The Food Terminal is located also houses City Farmers Market, so we checked that out. ( Unfriendly commented to me that he got a lot of the stares he got when we went to Hawaii because he’s so pale and tall. 😂 ) I picked up some tiramisu flavored sweets. I was really tempted to pick up some red bean ice cream bars but that would not have ended well without a cooler.
Then we stopped off at the Sweet Hut for dessert. I tried some of Bernie’s matcha mousse and got some Vietnamese coffee. Unfriendly and I picked up a load of bakery items for home.
I had so much fun. I always worry I’m going to be a spaz, but it was all so natural. We just had the best time.

This is a Hate Crime!
The worst part is a kid was brutalized for nothing, and the cost to him physically, mentally, and emotionally is heavy. If there was any real theft, it’s the loss of security of self in body and mind, as well as to the community at large.
Assault with intent to rob is a technicality when nothing of value was taken, but there doesn’t seem to be further evidence of xenophobic or racist intent. One can only hope it is something authorities are exploring. What bothers me is that we’re told violent crime is statistically decreasing in the developed world, yet it never seems to account for the increasing intensity and frequency against minorities.
Once you get this, you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly, then send this to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable) (positivity is cool) ♥ :D
I’m a good writer and a great editor. I can write a cold, effective, and vicious formal letter, e.g. to demand that the neighbor stop throwing dog poop over our shared fence.
I’m kind. I can be cranky and downright furious, but I spend a lot of time doing what I can to make other people more comfortable, and maybe even happy.
In the face of chronic pain, I am doing my best to continue living a productive and maybe even useful life.
I have gorgeous silver hair.
I’m a fairly advanced garment sewer; I have made simple garments without a pattern.
I’m going to have trouble sending this to ten of my favorite followers, because many of them have already done this! I’m doing as many as I can easily remember; please tag yourself, if you’d like to.
tfw you can decide between Wong and Sanders as your fav Bernie
Old House Gardens
If you are an American gardener, I highly, highly recommend Old House Gardens, http://www.oldhousegardens.com. They specialize in heirloom bulbs, most of which are no longer available commercially. Old House don’t just carry plants because they’re rare or nearly extinct; they carry plants that they believe to be beautiful. I’ve ordered from Old House and the bulbs I was shipped were large, firm, and produced healthy plants.
This is a white martagon lily, first seen in European gardens in 1601. This fall, Old House is offering unfamiliar varieties of crocus, hyacinth, lilies, peonies, and tulips; they also have Dutchman’s breeches (commercially grown, not wild-harvested), Byzantine gladiolus, and English bluebells.
(posted this twice with a picture and it failed; great job, Tumblr.)
(God damn it, our refrigerator just went out. Spent about an hour researching repair vs. replacement costs, calling a repair place, moving the salvageable food to the back freezer, and cleaning out the back freezer so that it would hold all the useful food. Am tired.)
