7. Coffee or tea while you write?

I don’t drink coffee at all, actually! I hate everything about it; taste and smell makes me sick and caffeine makes me hypomanic!

I do like some teas, but tea and writing isn’t really something I do. I usually write while laying in bed or while I’m in like a waiting room or something, neither of which are good positions to drink tea in.

11. What makes a fic 'successful' in your opinion?

Wise mind answer: When it tells the story the author wanted it to tell.

The little cognitive distortion devil on my shoulder, about my fics only: When the numbers go up… also, vibes… (<- Highly conditional and not static. The same fic can be the best thing I’ve ever written or total dogshit on any given day. Which is why we do not listen to cognitive distortion devil.)

By my preferred metric, I consider just about all of my fics from 2023 onwards to be successful. The rest, I have not given up on.

Sometimes the story you want to tell cannot be told through the characters you were given, and you have to make your own, and that’s ok, too. That’s not a failed fanfic, that’s a story waiting to be moved into an original fiction where it can grow properly. And it may or may not be what happened with one of my not-yet-successful fics.

19. How do you get over writer's block?

I’m gonna be honest, I have no fucking idea. I think I’m finally past my block that’s been here since fucking April of last year, but I’m not 100% certain.

Got very rambley and a little venty so I’m sticking this under the cut:

Finish Your Fucking Fics February helped, as well as finding new inspiration (which led to a new series: Raze Hell), but I have still only posted 4 fics in the past 10 months, with half of those being a part of that challenge.

Usually my writer’s block is less, “I can’t write,” and more, “I can’t finish anything,” or “I can’t write coherently.” I have ADHD and disorganized thinking from psychosis, both of which affect my ability to write stories that make sense and then finish and publish them.

I’m still writing, it’s just that it’s in 2 million different WIPs that I’ll be editing forever and also sometimes I have a psychotic episode and have to throw stuff out entirely because it makes no sense after coming out of it.

Great for poetry sometimes though. For some reason people go nuts for poetry I write in psychotic episodes. I call it “nonsense poetry” and I haven’t posted any here, but I performed a few pieces at open mics and stuff back in high school, and they’re always received really well. I only keep the ones I like, but there’s still something off about them so I’m always surprised when people like them. I hate the tortured artist trope but damn if it isn’t working for me in that one regard.

I’ve been drawing a lot lately, and I think I’ve been improving pretty fast, so, I like that I’m a fast learner!

I like that the determination I have when it comes to creative projects. I’ve been struggling a lot on that platonic!RadioDust fic, but I haven’t given up, yet!

I like how far I’ve come in my recovery. My emotional regulation has improved sooo much, as has my ability to see grey area.

I like my skill-level with character design. I think it’s pretty good for only having drawn 3 so far.

I like my eyes. They are voids :)
