When: 14th February, 3pm-ish Where: Dirk & Bertram’s flat Who: Dirk && @bertrey
Dirk was glad they’d chosen to stay at home. It wasn’t that he hated the idea of the carnival or that he didn’t believe in the cause that it was going to but more that it wasn’t really a true reflection on him and Bertram and if this was going to be the first time they really acknowledged the holiday that coincided with Bertram’s birthday he would rather it just be the two of them at home instead of lost in a crowd. It was more comfortable like this, sat at opposite ends of the sofa with their legs intertwined like it was the most natural thing in the world, one of the records Dirk had bought for Bertram playing in the background. A muggle band. While Dirk had fallen out of the habit of keeping up with muggle music in more recent years he had known this was a band he wanted to introduce to Bertram.
At some point, he had abandoned his book on the floor and taken to watching his friend, roommate, something more, for once not self-conscious about being caught looking. He’d reached a strange feeling of calm with himself, somewhere between the decision to have this weekend together in a little bubble where only they existed and the one to not ignore Valentine’s Day. It still terrified him to think that he held any power to hurt Bertram or the confusion of what his feelings meant but these past few months had been too good, too easy, too blissful for him to keep kidding himself that this didn’t feel right. Now he just had to find the courage to let them move beyond this undefined state of limbo that their relationship had hung in ever since that first kiss (or ever since the second one, perhaps).
“I got you something else,” he said, as one song faded to a finish. “Accio present.” It was only a box of chocolates and a Muggle pack of Loveheart sweets but Dirk’s face was warm and flushed as he sat up and moved closer. It felt even more corny now that he was holding the wrapped gift out to Bertram. “I know I’ve already said happy birthday but… Happy Valentine’s Day, too.”
