"I did say it was an old Dalish saying...while some legends have truth to them to some degree, you're not expected to believe it in its entirety." Myrna was...a bit superstitious, however, so she believed the underlying warning of it, but that didn't mean she believed it at face value.

Which, Fen'Harel had trapped him and the other gods, so it was difficult to do a job from a prison. In his defense, he couldn't exactly tend to the dead.

Besides, they knew that the dead walked when demons possessed them; it was common knowledge now, but back in the day? Maybe they didn't quite understand the mechanics of it. Maybe they didn't know yet because it hadn't been studied extensively.

Creators, wasn't that the truth...

"However, just like I'm sure there's one strange fellow out there that collects teeth in a jar because he's fascinated with them, there must be someone equally pack-rat-ish with chatter." Whether it was because they genuinely enjoyed talking to people or because they liked to torture others, there was surely one or more people that couldn't for the life of them shut their mouths for five minutes.

Conversation, good and bad, was unavoidable these days, but she still tried to find ways out of it when she could. Myrna tended to look for excuses to wriggle out of it when trapped in dull, meaningless gossip. Fuck, she hated gossip.

She did not care about who slept with this or that person. There was a would-be god trying to make a demon army; some things were higher on her priority list. "I had someone telling me about their exploits with a duchess because their former lover wore the wrong boots to a soirée and they wanted revenge. Why does anyone need to know that? What does it accomplish? Is it meant to be a threat or are you bragging at your own pettiness? Genuine questions..."

A voice in the back of her mind reminded her to seek out wisdom; this counted, right? Maybe he'd have more insight to what the hell these people were on. He'd been around this for longer.

"I'll trade you their name for honest answers," she tried, hoping information for information would work. That's how this worked, right?

"I plan on wearing my best footwraps, and I will fight everyone on that," she grumbled. Myrna had treated herself to a new set of leather ones last month. Those would do just fine, in her humble opinion. If she had to, she'd douse them in glitter so they'd sparkle or something. That should be fine. "Or maybe I'll buy some silk ones for the occasion. There. Problem solved."

Myrna would fight to wear her traditional garb until she was wrangled into something else by force if need be. She was Dalish and would present herself as such, and she didn't want to be assimilated into their culture. She wasn't Orlesian, damnit.

She almost tried to start an argument with him about ordering her around. However, he was helping; she needed to be grateful and not complain or piss him off. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck learning these foolish dances with someone even less patient than Bertrand was.

In all honesty, he deserved a fucking medal for this.

Myrna quietly hissed in frustration but did as she was told. She raised her arms into position and pranced for eight beats to the next spot once the musicians started up again, mouthing the numbers as she did. She even managed to keep her chin up for once.

It was more out of defiance and irritation than because she remembered.

"Perhaps for those unlucky, highborn few, it is. I understand there's a supposed "need," but what a miserable existence if you and your spouse despise each other."

He was grateful that he was never forced into such a position during his time at court with Emperor Drakon. An ambassador for the Dalish-turned-Seeker did not need to marry for status or power; he could marry someone he liked and could more than just tolerate.

"Thank the Maker that Telana and I were never in that situation. We were fortunate enough to do as we pleased."

Ameridan took a sip of his wine, and then continued. "Perhaps those in power would seek peace more readily if they weren't so miserable in their marriages."

"Fine wines and giggles, mine, not his." She loved to frustrate the man, and it took little to earn her his exasperation. Why he let her anywhere near him was beyond her.

She smiled behind her nug mask and picked up a box that sat beside her that appeared to be filled with neatly stacked goodies. The other was a basket that had strange cylindrical bobs in it. ""Treat" he says. All right then."

Myrna chose carefully from the stack, and eventually pulled out a small box. Inside was a slice of mousse pie with gold dust on top.

"See? Tame." She didn't dare try to piss him off on a fun holiday. That would spoil the mood.
