yall i need to know more about beshelar's social life. i need to know about his friends. his family. because he is so disagreeable and opinionated that he blurts his thoughts out at his emperor. that is probably a quarter of a quarter of his power. he is a mouthy motherfucker. he has opinions about everything and he lets people KNOW IT. i'm half-sure that his superiors only let him rise to the ranks to becoming a nohecharis despite his lip because at least it's pro-monarchist yapping. he'd recite back uniform requirements at his superior when he notices that they forgot to tuck in their tunic right. he is the horribly blunt friend people go ask advice from when they know it's time to stop fucking around, but honestly he doesn't even wait for permission before deadass reading his friends for filth, and you know what, i already know my boi is right. beshelar.

I can't believe I got back onto Tumblr for this. Damn how good this book is.

This is one of the most dramatic scenes from Katherine Addison's wonderful novel The Goblin Emperor, in which Maia, aka Emperor Edrehasivar VII, is saved from an assassination attempt by his nohecharei (bodyguards), Beshelar and Cala.

Cala (on the right) is one of my favorite characters in the novel, and I'm really pleased with how he came out here!

I want to clutch The Goblin Emperor and its entire store of fanfic and fanart to my chest and just roll around in it like a cat.

IT’S SO GOOD. YOU GUYS. THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD. MAIA IS A PRECIOUS IMPERIAL CINNAMON ROLL. like, I wouldn’t actually want to live in that world but I just want to hang out with the characters All Day Everyday. it is a CRIME that throughout the book I don’t think anyone actually gave Maia the hug he so desperately needed and deserved

basically if you like really thick, character-driven fantasy worldbuilding where the protagonist and most (all, I’m psure) of his allies strive to be Good and Kind even in the face of hard decisions and betrayal, go read it. also, if you HAVE read it, please hit me up so that I can scream helplessly about the protagonists and my desire for a Csevet/Beshelar/Csethiro/Cala/Maia cuddlepile to happen in at least one fic

Goblin Emperor AUs abound! The top one is more Brightsky Chronicles characters - Dana Carelcar the snarky doctor who would really raher be left alone, and Zhadris Athmaza, who is WAY TOO PSYCHIC for anyone’s good and is not going to leave Carelcar alone.

Unfortunately I realised that the Elflands are landlocked and not condusive to pirate battles, so I filed the serial numbers of these and you won’t see them again, at least not in this form. Watch this space.

Below them is the current hot AU in the chatroom - the Imperial Palace Theatre. Cala the head set tech, and Maestro Deret Beshelar the conductor of the Imperial Palace Orchestra. Somehow they manage to have the most functional relationship in the place.

More Goblin Emperor, by Katherine Addison illustration! I’ll be doing lots more of these in the near future (some of the ladies are up next), but for now have Maia, his First Nohecharei--Cala and Beshelar--and Csevet, his secretary. I desperately love all the characters in this book, and if you haven’t read it, do yourself a favor and check it out!!

More Goblin Emperor characters! Csethero Ceredin, Devet Beshelar and Csevet Aisava. If you love me, view these in the gallery, Tumblr always messes up my pictures on the dash so much.

Csethiro turned out pretty well, so did Beshelar - I see a lot of people dressing him in blue, probably because Cala is explicitly stated to be wearing blue, but I think that’s actually a maza thing so I gave him a different colour for his uniform.

Csevet, not so happy with. He should be paler, for one thing, and I’m not so pleased with his outfit, but you can’t win them all.
