The Bespoke EP - The Mastering Technik
I knew what sound I was looking for. I mean, I'd heard it on vinyl, on cassette.. man I'd heard it on the eight track tapes in my Dad's Volkswagen hatchback (A Lamborghini in it's day :)
A warm, analogue, rich, deep and velvety sound ; like some 70's cravat that 'made' the suit and saluted the shoes.
Genre wise, I covered musical terrain on this, you know like Soul, Electronica, Fusion, Jazz, Hip Hop elements. It's all in there, in me.
I wanted it to have that sound of my youth ; sound boy, soul brother, rude boy, vinyl vampire.
Nick Lewis at Brighton Mastering saw the 'pictures' I'd painted and filtered the sound.
''Emeson's style seemed to me to be all about keeping an organic, almost vintage vibe within the context of modern soul, hip-hop and electronica - which is pretty much my favourite thing. I used some digital trickery to fill the bass out and get the kick punching the way it should on a modern release, but put it through real tubes and a 15ips tape simulator to give it that warm, rich tone that records had before computers took over. Silicon with soul''
''Got a real kick out of working on the Bespoke EP, can't wait do more''.
- Nick Lewis [Brighton Mastering]
The Bespoke EP is out on GalaxianMusic on the 21st July 2014.
