What was your favorite job?

I most enjoyed being an Executive Officer (XO) for a maintenance company (I mean technically it was a troop because we were cavalry but lets not complicate it). In the Army organizational structure units above company level have a Commanding Officer (CO) and a First Sergeant (1SG) who are in charge and then the XO who makes sure everything gets done.

I had the good fortune to be with two amazing men who didn’t make me do their dirty work but actually made me an active and vital part of the running of the company. It was a really big group of people (256 ish most of the time I was there) that were always going in a dozen directions with a dozens of different problems both personal and professional. It was a lot of work and responsibility but it was also where I felt I did the most good. There is a lot of power that comes with that job and I was able to use to help hard working Soldiers and to mentor struggling ones and to help people grow and develop. It was work that paid me back in the best way possible.
