The best court case of all time
My favorite court case of all time is the United States ex rel. Gerald Mayo v. Satan and His Staff.
In case the name didn’t make what was going on clear, its about a guy who literally tried to sue the literal devil for causing him ‘misery and unwarranted threats,’ and placing ‘deliberate obstacles in his path’. According to Mr Mayo, these nefarious actions on the part of Satan were a violation of his constitutional rights.
But, the absolute best part of this case, is the fact the judge doesn’t just dismiss it for being completely ridiculous. In fact he actually acknowledges the case might have legitimacy as a class action. Nope, he dismisses it because the plaintiff couldn’t give the US Marshall’s Satan’s home address, so they could serve him papers.
Sometimes law school can actually be interesting...
