Choosing a Laptop for College.
As part of my course I decided to investigate the laptop market. With a bit of research I was lead to Pixmania because when you compare them to other providers in Ireland Pixmania has proven to be lower priced for the same products than most other Irish retailers.
I have chosen the Samsung NP-S3520 as my choice for a college laptop. There are a number of reasons for this; Samsung has been a long provider of computer technology and from my experience they have very seldom got it wrong. I associate them with sturdy reliable technology and competitive prices. At Pixmania for €460 you get this laptop with a free mouse, and postage to your door for a total of €477.99. The processor is a i3 2310M which is 2nd Generation of the “i” series. The processor speed is 2.10GHz at a duel core spec. As an “i” series it has 2 Processors and 2 threads. It also has a 3MB cache. Given all this you are guaranteed high performance for all common tasks. Once I finished researching the processor I moved on to look into the Graphics Card. The Specifications stated on the hardware list it was a Intel GMX X4500M. At first glance it made me think; would this be a suitable for my daily needs, a integrated graphics. But it is a HD card this means that it can play up to 720p or maybe 1080p. Finally I looked into the memory. It has 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard Drive. It also features a Wifi card, VGA output, SRS Sound Card and a built in Camera. Regarding software the computer comes with anti-virus trial and Microsoft Office Starter pack. I personally think this option is lacking flexibility of options. I went looking and found Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and for an extra €64.99 it would be a great option for students and provide a lot more flexibility. Other than this I would recommend getting AVG free and that would make the computer ready to go for any students needs. With a limit of €600 my total here at the end is €542.98. Just enough to buy myself Battlefield 3 for €49.95 and 3 cans of Monster for €1.99 each to max the first experience a memorable one. Grand total of €598.93 I might donate the last €1.07 to a good charity.
