We painted and drew at our first big festival in September - BESTIVAL - visually and creatively has to the BEST festival going and we were so chuffed to be a part of it this year.
We hired a little van and drove down for a 10 day stay, crashing in the back of our Europecar in sleeping bags amongst paint and pens. Brilliant, even though our backs were in pieces...it was all worth it.
Our first job was to paint the crew bar which was dubbed THE BONEYARD, and was the first time Bestival had actually created a section for all the crew to chill and have a beer, so it was a pretty big deal..
We were given three old caravans that had been gutted and boarded up, to just kind of go crazy on, and create a laid-back space in the theme of Day of The Dead, the Mexican festival. This was slightly more challenging as we're not really ones to draw sugar skulls! But we made it our own and were really pleased with the final look.
The crew bar was buzzing for the whole weekend and was such a great place to meet the rest of the crew and be away from all the other festival go-ers!... It was open till 6am most nights too so there was always somewhere to go and have a dance before crawling back into our van!
When the festival actually kicked off, we did some promotional work for a chocolate milk brand called Cocio. They had their own stand where they gave out loads of free chocolate milk (of which we had one too many...), had live music and DJs, and US! - Drawing away on the blackboards...
We had two massive chalk boards, with the concept of people writing ideas of what would "make this moment unforgettable" and us illustrating the ideas... We were slightly terrified but it actually worked really well and got lots of attention. Although we also felt a bit like bouncers stopping the drunk children from drawing 'rude pictures', and constantly shouting "NOTHING RUDE!!!". But it was great fun and we met some really lovely people.
Nice one BESTIVAL! Hopefully we'll be there again next year.
