An emotional and deeply touching story that focuses on the social media obsessed generation in today's time which affects two families, one from the higher social class while the other from a working class. One drunken night leads to a very indecent photo being passed around of a young teenage girl leading to the characters being affected the situation. Nina Browning, the mother of the boy accused of taking the photograph is astounded by his behavior. Nina came from a middle class family and while joyous that her family doesn’t want for anything she’s also worried about the extreme materialism that wealth has brought into their lives, especially for her husband and son. She desperately wants her son to notice the error of his ways and not let his father's wealth justify his actions or make him get away with his horrendous act. Tom Volpe, the single working class father of Lyla who was the victim whose photo was snapped at the party. Tom is enraged after the incident deciding to take steps to ensure his daughter's safety and dignity are not compromised but Lyla feels her father is overreacting and wants to just let the incident fizzle out on its own. The book follows alternating perspectives of Nina, Tom and Lyla as the incident unfolds and impacts each one's life differently. The Outsider is by far the best book written by Stephen King. This book is Mr. King at his beat. It is spell binding and chilling to the bones. While reading this, I could feel the fear creeping into me and I had a couple of nightmares at night. I just could not stop thinking about the story and what was going to happen next. The story starts with a horrific and brutal murder of a young boy and Terry, the coach is arrested for this heinous act. However, as the story goes on we discover that there is more to this murder than meets the normal eye or what the normal human mind can contemplate. A force greater, more sinister and more powerful than normal is seeking to wreak havoc and it is up to the police force to stop him before he causes more damage. It is very rare that it happens when I read a book and I have no words to describe how wonderful and deeply engrossing the book was. Usually, as I am reading my mind comes up with a few words and ideas of how the story is going on and how I would describe the book in my social media pages. However, this book left no room for me to even divert my attention or think about how to phrase the reading experience. I was so lost in the story, I barely realized it was way past midnight when I had completed the entire story and I still was not over the story. I am still mesmerized and intrigued by the story. There are so many topics that I would like to learn more of including the birds of paradise, the works of Darwin (again) and Wallace as well as the Edwin Rist himself. The book can be divided into three parts. The first with an introductory background of Wallace's work and his life. The second with a narrative on Edwin and how he planned to carry out a grand theft at the Tring Museum and the last with the author's study and research of the theft and its implications to science and humankind. I was so enraged by the acts of Edwin and the fact that he got away with it so easily. I felt like justice was delayed and not served as it should have been. He deprived humanity of every chance of discovering something unique and breathtaking that would help in the understanding of evolution and development of species. He should have been given a greater sentence in my opinion. I also felt that the Tring Museum was also very negligent in that it had no idea any theft was committed until after a month of the incident. However, their record keeping skills and the preservation of species is quite commendable and impressive. I believe that without the efforts of the author much of what we do know about the incident would not have been known to us. His writing style is worthy of praise and deserves a huge round of applause.
