I don’t normally do things like this but tomorrow we have a chance to do something incredible, so here it goes. One of the most amazing aspects of the US is the right to vote. Without this right that many often do not even partake in, life as we know it would cease to exist. Voting is the basis of the freedom we know and love. Unfortunately, our voting rights have long been controlled, or at least significantly limited. When it comes to the Presidential election, we only ever have two choices. (Technically you can vote for anyone you want, but it is fairly considered a waste of your voice.) Most often what this “choice” comes down to is a decision of which candidate you dislike least. This is because our vote is all or nothing. We are forced to agree or disagree with everything a party says is right. Life is not that simple. Nothing is just option A or option B. We live in a complex world with difficult, multifaceted problems. The answer isn’t always going to be A or B. What about C, D, E and so on? We always talk about how we want to see change, yet we never really do anything about it. This election holds an opportunity to actually vote for change. Now this change is not something we are going to excitedly watch our President enact over the next four years. Heck, it won’t even affect any part of most of our lives during the next term. However, it is the one change we need. Tomorrow, I will be voting for libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson. Former Governor Johnson has no hope at all of being the next President of the United States of America. Why would I use my vote this way then? If Gary Johnson can get just five percent of the popular vote, it guarantees the libertarian party a spot on the next ballot 4 years from now, as well as access to federal campaign money. Now, I’m sure people are wondering why in the hell we would want a libertarian candidate on the next ballot or to receive some of this funding. See, it is not about Gary Johnson or even the libertarian party. This is about creating more options, more possibilities, and about a chance to take a stand and say to our government “We Deserve Better!” This is OUR chance to make a change, instead of just entrusting it to someone else. So please just take a minute to think about what you really want from your government and your leaders. Are you satisfied with the two “choices” we have to choose from, or do you want to hear more sides, more options, and have the freedom to make the best possible decision you can? If you agree with the later, maybe a vote for Gary Johnson is the one for you. #BeThe5Percent
