Media Department Student Conference
The Media department held its 16th annual Media Conference at Granger Bay Hotel School. The conference mainly focused on mediatisation which is a theory that argues that the media shapes and frames the processes and discourse of political communication as well as society in which that communication takes place.
The conference connected to the Media department brand beautifully as it touched on, on all four disciplines the Media department offers which then relates to their brand image and reputation, because the conference spoke with the same brand voice which entails media and our society.
One of the guest speakers Mr Jeffrey Onganga touched on political communication and how it goes back to affect our society. He explained how country from country differs when it comes to freedom of speech also managing to leave a question that wasn't really a question saying "New media has come so fast there hasn't been time to ask the question of whether it is a good or bad thing?"
The event was so insightful it allowed us as students to engage and gain more knowledge regarding professions in Media, as mediatisation has become a paradigm shift in media itself. It urges us to be more social conscious and being prepared to walk the extra mile. The Media department opened up a whole new platform. Having speakers for all four disciplines was a great way of making sure all students present had enough knowledge to take with, not only that but actually getting a glimpse of what our future might look like and what challenges to expect and how to try to overcome them because the future lies in us.
