“That doesn’t sound as nice as you think it does.”
Bruce wrinkles his nose.
“Wanna know a secret, shrimp? I didn’t think it sounded all that nice to start. That’s why I said it.”

“It’s her birthday, you know.”
The words are seemingly out of nowhere, breaking a silence between the two that had gone on for what felt like forever. June’s voice is distant, as if not really speaking to anyone, and the glazed over look in her eyes as she stares at a wall of their shared tent seems to support that,
“I...I still wake up some days thinking that I’m gonna see her- running around camp, stitching people up, or...”
She wipes a hand roughly against her face, brushing away the tears that have started to form and inhales deeply.
“It’s just weird, still, not having her around.”

A beat, and she presses the pen back to the crossword she’d been working on just a moment ago, filling in boxes as she goes.
“Can I ask what prompted this nugget of wisdom?”
better-run-rabbit-run answered your ask
“I’ll take yer whiskey but I’m not jumpin’ off no roof,” he said, scoffing at her a bit. He took the lid off, and shot back a bit of the liquid. It burned, and he loved it.
“I’d rather not fuckin’ die that way, thanks.”

6) Something they lost, but would love to have back“My self respect.”
8) What kind of car they would drive. She likes nice cars, so probably anything that qualifies as a screaming metal deathtrap. It kinda kills her that Calvin insists on getting like a minivan once the kids are born. She does eventually get a motorcycle tho.
10) How they deal with pain.Max doesn’t like admitting she’s in pain (physical or emotional) so it’s mostly just her insisting she’s fine. She deals with things like a Functioning Adult.
❛ It’s fine. You’re not even that blurry. ❜

“Oh um.”
Maci looks around, a concerned frown growing deeper and deeper on her face. Lightly, she touches a hand to the other girl’s shoulder, motioning that she should sit.
“Y-you should prob’ly sit down or somethin’, you hit that tree pretty hard.”
